1969 Daytona Yellow SS396 L78 Chevelle Build

I just got back home from a 3 day weekend - Greg and I decided to start a long time coming build. Greg has owned a 1969 Daytona Yellow L78 Chevelle for 6-7 years that has been waiting its turn to be restored. This Daytona Yellow Chevelle will be very nice when complete as it lived a very good life as is evident by the condition of all the parts....very pit free and superior condition.

This L78 Chevelle is an M21 4 speed, black cloth bench seat, KK 4.10 posi, Black Vinyl Top. The engine and rear end are 100% born with original to the car.

We gathered all the necessary parts and got organized in order to be able to assemble the entire rolling chassis on my next trip down.

We occasionally sub out certain work....We had our good friend Rick Nelson rivet the upper control arm for this build. Rick it was great seeing you as always. Thanks for your friendship and great fast service.

Our local St. Louis friend Mark Johnson also stopped by for a visit....Mark hope we see you again on my next visit. Great seeing you.

Looking great as are all Greg's restorations. It was really great having Greg stop by the shop and BS's for hours, ditto with you. Lots of cool stories. You will have to let me know when you are driving through Springfield so I can meet you for lunch next time Dan.

Just got back from a long Easter weekend. Greg and I only had one day.....but we still were able to assemble the rolling chassis.

The tires and wheels are a mock up set....I still need to apply the stripes on the driveshaft.

It`s a high temp coating - check with your local powder coater....It is not Powder Coat. We have used it for years with great results.

I have used POR-15's exhaust manifold coating and it looks like that and works great. Have had it on one of my cars for over 10 years and not too much discoloration. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-24340-023.jpg

Looking great Dan!
One question
Did you find evidence of an old JD sticker on the driver side valve cover?
All the originals I'm used to seeing were on the passenger side rear.

Postsedan 05-24-2015 02:45 PM

Re: 1969 Daytona Yellow SS396 L78 Chevelle Build

Good eye Rick.....these obviously are not the original valve covers.....once the original Valve Covers get rechromed they will have the correct decal on the passengers side.
