Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
Does anybody know who the tall guy is who is sitting in the front row with the two blondes wearing orange dresses who keep walking in front of the camera as the cars are going across the block? I saw him at Mecum Indy also where he bought a number of cars.

Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
How does a non documented 67 Yenko sold Camaro outsell a documented original 69 427 Yenko Camaro???BKH
|
Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
brian agree - I don't understand the hype/sale on the car - unless someone has info the car is for real???
|
Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
The first Yenko 427 Camaro, as far as I know is YS601. It is confirmed by all the paperwork, the mechanics which worked on the car, the original owners who purchased the car and the dealership sales manager who ordered the car directly from Don Yenko.

Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
people buy counterfit cars at auctions everyday. i cant believe it either and paid more than a REAL 69 yenko. They bought a STORY and a nice ss350.
|
Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
I don't think this car was even an SS350..
|
Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
if you read the description of the car that mecum gives you can hear the tap dance around the fact this its not a converted 427 car. Warren should know the car if it sat around for a year at the yenko dealership.

Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
.... Are there an records that show what the "CE" number on the Yenko Dealer installed motors were ? .... I know that there are records from which cars were going to be converted and were assigned a "YS" number..... would they also have any records showing what the "CE" motor was that was installed in each? .... Was this car in any of the photos or advertisements that show yenko "Converting" a Camaro ? .... Who restored this gold Camaro? .... Who bought it? Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
was the state assigned tag still on the car at the auction?? OMG
|
Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
What's with the trim tag?
|
Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
That tag was off the car, and looks like someone tried to re-stamp it from behind. The story, state issued vin number, trim tag, non ss car, and seller. I would not buy this car even without the story.

Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
Was there a pre-auction estimate on the '67 Gold Camaro?...that would be interesting...

Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
I think the car was done in Clinton IA. They are good folks. To the best of my knowledge, they've never worked on any Yenko cars before. I would guess they built the car to the owners directions. It's not really their job to verify it's legitimacy. They were hired to hang sheet metal, and put on the paint.
No previous owner, or people who had info on the car to my knowledge claimed it was a conversion as it's my understanding they never saw any docs to conclusively prove a conversion ever happened. While we all tend to shake our collective heads about this, there seems to be a certain segment of wealthy people who buy these cars without caring about the proper pedigree. And amazingly, they seem to then garner more money later on. Example: Blk L89 70 Nova, silver re bodied Yenko deuce. As in politics, seems if you repeat it enough times, folks begin to believe it's the truth. I had a conversation with a gentleman who knew this car well. He felt, and I agreed with him, that the seller would do well. Some people out there really don't much care much about the facts, or what we all think. FWIW |
Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
If it was restored as an early conversion. I think it would have a small block fan shroud and heater core. Also the motor looks to be sitting back too far the fan blade is not covered at all by the fan shroud.

Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
The car is going into a personal museum from what I understand and not resold anytime in the next 10's of yrs.

Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction

Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
I see that the vin is on the list on the 67 yenko list on this site, I wonder if the hidden vins match also?
|
Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
Having a car on that list proves somethings, but not by it self that it is a 427 Conversion.
|
Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
.... Was it an "unconverted" car? |
Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
How it was delivered to Don Yenko Chevrolet from the factory,(in the early years before the COPO program was accessed),and before he pulled the born with engine out & installed a new 427cid. engine and added his stripes etc.

Was the axle original when you found it? Too early for a 4P tag. That tag looks funky. |

Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
This car was a nothing car as found, who knows what happened to the trim tag. With a state assigned vin anything is possible. I don't see why anyone would have cared about the tag in as found condition, it was not an expensive car. I am an experienced tig welder. It would be almost impossible to weld the thin aluminum of a trim tag with a tig welder without burning through it.

Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
There could be another 40 1967 Camaro vins like this on the list of 107 "Yenko Super Camaros" that was sent to NHRA by Yenko Sports Cars on Aug. 7, 1967 . Ghost cars

Here is a reply to the Desert Rat Yenko advertisement. Anyone want to call him and provide and education. He did afterall take the time to email me. Buyer Information: keith 519 638 0599 WoW you should look at Hemmings today 300.000 for the first ever made yanko so I don't know where you get this price from |
Re: MECUM Dallas 2014 Auction
Simple answer. Big difference between a Yanko Camaro and Yenko Camaro! Some people just cannot be educated.
