Silly Nova question
 

I went from an automatic to a 4 speed, with the 69 Nova. Had to change the pedals of course. They came from a 72 Nova, I was told. The brake and clutch pedals are at the same height. My Chevelle and ElCamino both have the brake pedal lower than the clutch, which makes it easier to drive, because my foot doesn't hit the brake when I push the clutch. Maybe my feet are too big?..

Question: Are the Nova clutch and brake pedals all the same height, or do I have a unique issue here. The adjustment in the brake pedal is all the way in, so I can't lower the brake pedal any more, unless I pull the brake booster out, and thread the rod more.......but then the brake light switch wouldn't reach the pedal arm.

Are all Camaros and Novas like this?

Isn`t there two clevis pin holes on the brake pedal arm....if not, could you drill another hole in the pedal....therefore changing the pedal height ever so slightly.

Just look at your El Camino, and measure the hole distance and duplicate.
Are you sure these pedals are not repops?

I always thought 68-72 Nova shared the pedal assy with the first gen Camaro.

My clutch pedal is definitely higher than the brake pedal.

My 70 Nova has the brake pedal about an inch or so lower that the clutch pedal. Original stuff.

My 1969 survivor nova has the clutch pedal higher and so does my 69 camaro. Both camaro and nova are about the same. I don't think I ever saw any Chevy where they were both the same height. Not that I can remember.

Not sure what the problem is. Dan I can't move the rod to the other hole. The angle would be way off, and really impossible to do. They are not repro's. I'm sure of that. They looked like they were 40 yrs old when I bought them. I can thread the rod farther down the rod coming from the booster, and lower the pedal, but then the brake light switch wouldn't reach the pedal. There's not much room in a Nova to move around. I'll have to pull the seat out and see if I can adjust the rod some more.....or maybe have a foot reduction??

The Yenko Deuce I had -- the brake pedal was approx 1.5&quot; to 2&quot; lower than the clutch.

Hi Bill,

I was going to post a reply earlier today but without seeing the car I hate to rely on memory. We met at Carlyle back in June and I own the red 68 Nova SS. I looked at the brake/clutch pedal this evening and the clutch pedal is about 1/2 inch above the brake pedal. This car is an untouched original. Maybe a foot reduction is in order. Alternatively, if you put your left foot to the left of the clutch pedal and push it to the floor, while holding the far right pedal to floor, and then release the left pedal this should solve your problem. After all this is what it's all about! LOL.

Thanks Again for all the replies......From the emails, pm's and posts on this thread, the consensus is.....the brake/clutch pedal height, can vary as much as 2 inches. Anywhere from close to being the same height, to the brake pedal being 2&quot; lower. I haven't been able to crawl under the dash yet, and see what I can do to adjust the brake pedal height. I'll look over the weekend.

Thanks for the link Bill. I had seen the thread before and unfotunately the pics are blocked on my office computer. I can access them from my home computer though and will take a look first chance I get. I'm sure it will be a fun car for ya. Good luck on getting your clutch pedal deal worked out.
