I would love to own one of these cars. Horsepower today is much more controlable. Anything with FI (I still think this means fuel injections but it seems to be universally accepted as Forced Induction) and a cool engine managment can make at least 175 hp per liter and be a tame, daily driver. So Yeah, the Ford makes 140 hp per liter. Not bad I guess, but are we talking at the wheel? I think amazing might be a bit much. When compared to Muscle Car era horspower, it's kind of amazing. Compared to today, it's nothing much. I am into old Audi quattro cars . We make 400 hp at all four wheels on stock 2.2 liter long blocks. Pushing 180 hp per liter, and if you factor in 20% drivetrain loss and want to do the equation based on crank hp we're talking 220 hp per liter. So yeah, 140 hp per liter is kinda ho-hum compared what is possible with today's technology. Sounds kinda snotty to turn your nose up at 750 hp, but the relity is that there is a lot more HP available to be made. I think manufacturer's are just afraid of the liability of offering 1000+ hp cars. That is why I will continue to bang the drum for a COPO consisting of a stout base engine to allow the aftermarket to acheive these numbers with simple bolt-ons rather than engine tear downs. |

That's the best idea yet!!! As a kid I grew up a few miles down the road from Mosport and used to wake up weekend mornings to the sounds of cars lapping the track!. I used to try and concentrate on the sound of one car at a time and listen carefully until I could tell where they were on the track from their shifting and revs!. Well, I'm a Chevy guy too.......but of the 'old' Chevy. That's not even the same company anymore and Ford most certainly has been leading the way for a long time now for faster, superior hi-performance factory offerings. Like the elephant in the room, people tend to forget that they actually stopped making Camaros and Firebirds entirely after 2002 because EVERYBODY was buying Mustangs. How can any Musclecar fan not be impressed by some of the Mustangs of the last 8 or so years: Mach 1's with Shaker hoods, Bullitt models, the "Terminator" Cobras of 2003-04, Rousch 'Stangs, and finally the awesome Shelby GT500's that get better and better every year, the recent return of the 5.0, and now this sure-to-be-hit.....the Boss 302! It seems like every time Chevy EVEN THINKS about making an upcoming high-horsepower press-release or announcement that Ford immediately comes out with a higher figure.
