Re: The BOSS is back!!!
Its ashame that the average guy can't afford the sticker price on the upcoming Z28, GT500, Boss, etc. That leaves the base V8 models for the rest of the average working class guy, in which the 5.0 Mustang is ahead of the pack. Any manufacturer can stuff a monster supercharged beast into a car and charge an extra $20-25k, but the average guy isn't buying it and can't afford it. To me, that puts a car like the Z06, ZR1, CTS-V, upcoming Z28, GT500, etc in the Supercar class.

Re: The BOSS is back!!!
I'm glad to hear that Chevy is bringing back the Z28, but I don't agree with how they are doing it. They should call the new Camaro with the supercharged 6.2 a ZL1. Chevy should then make a lightened, bare-bones handler with a normally aspirated V8 engine with say at least 450 hp, with no frills and unwanted options (leave out the leather interior, nav, bluetooth systems etc., sound insulation, even stereo and air conditioning), barely street legal (like the first gen Z/28's) for under $30,000, and call that a Z28.

Re: The BOSS is back!!!
One of the obstacles for these special configuration cars is the Federal Test Proceedure regarding vehicle Emissions. Manufacturer/s have to submit a car for this testing, which is quite an investment. Somthing now around back in 69 when ol' Don was ordering his 427 cars.
The cost of the FTP for is then added to each specailty car. SInce they are going to be limited in sales, the adder is more significant. This can apply to just about everything else required to produce the car. Shadetree conversions will be cheaper and remove liability. I wish there was a configuration which would lend itslef to add ons. If they offered a low compression LS motor with a good set of rods and pistons but at a reasonable price they may have a makings of a hero. Basically looking for a package that could be a COPO where the local dealer could add their desired forced induction on a non SS car. It would save on insurance and the initial purchase price if a guy didn't want to do a dealer FI unit! |
Re: The BOSS is back!!!
pop mechanics are not known good drivers. They run 13.6 or so at the track with a good driver.. And they are 400 lbs less weight too.

The Challenger is not even close in performance or price. IMO Although a great looking car. </div></div> |
Re: The BOSS is back!!!
take it from lifetime GM guy.. Ford IS leading the pack.. Drive em both.. The 550 hp GT500 is out now.. (Ford has a bolt on 750 hp kit for it too)It will beat the (maybe??) Z28 just like the GT is faster and handles better then the Z28. Face it GM is not the GM we all once knew.. *sigh*
With GM taking the govt $$ was the nail in its coffin. Ford is making billions and never took a dime.. Cause they build cars people want.. The last privately owned American car company..:) <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: talwell</div><div class="ubbcode-body">By no way does Ford set the standards and Chevy follows. This is far from factual. As was stated, the 2010 Camaro was the first year release and wiped out all the competition. For 2011 Ford responded with a very nice and well equipped Mustang. But fret not, Chevy is testing the Z-28 now. This car is rumored to be LSA based and be running around the 550hp mark. Apples for apples - the GT needs to be compared to the SS and the Boss or GT500 needs to be compared to the coming Z-28. If any 2011 Mustang owners want to see what Chevy has in store for them in regards to future beat downs, just dare try to pull a light on a CTS-V Cadillac. This is a supercharged LSA powered monster and pumps out over 550hp. Even with this said, we have not even started talking about Ford competing with the Z06 or the ZR1. So, unfortunately I think you are very flawed in your statement of Ford leading the pack. But with all this new found muscle car wars comes the treasures to the consumers. Who would have thought 5 years ago Detroit would be rolling out cars that have HP levels never before seen in production cars. I am in my glory now as this is like living he late 1960's all over again. </div></div> |

Makes little difference to me as I'm not a Rustang guy but the new Boss would've looked better w/ the '70 Boss striping instead of the '69 style!.
