I have an expired wet charged repro R59 too, sitting in a cabinet. I drained the acid but have not cut it open.

I did a conversion on a dated R-89 case for my 70 Z28 about 15 years ago and 370 CCA Miata battery fits just fine inside.

Cut the bottom out of the case, gutted it, and attached jumpers to the side terminals.

How is the jumper attached to the R59 post? Reason I ask, is that I have a real R59 Store Sample, which has a standard case with no guts. I planned to cut the bottom to install an AGM battery, but never got around to it.

The battery case jumper leads bolt to the Odyssey Battery terminals.

I know how the lead attaches to the Odessey, but I was asking about the other end which attaches somehow to the underside of the lead positive and negative posts.
