Apparently after it was recovered, the bare shell was sold to some racers from Long Island who ran it as a bracket car, even with the same paint. I found an early pic of it too.
When it was new. ![]() Right before it was stolen? ![]() After it was recovered, sold, repaired, and from the looks of it,was for sale again. I wonder where it went. It looks like it still has the Mr Gasket sticker near the front bumper. I guess whoever stole it took care not to damage the paint. ![]() |

Remember that car! I remember Zul talking in the Pits to his buddies saying someone stole his race car.

Sammy ! I just want to say that we did NOT steal it !
The rear wheel well does not look the same. And the red paint on the front fender close to the grill is not exactly the same. Could be the same car but with some modifications made.

I know it was found about 2 blocks from my friend's shop about a week after it was stolen. Richie Zul came to my friend's shop to see if any of his stuff ended up there since my friend was a local pro stock racer and engine builder. I know the car was sold to somebody with an Italian last name who raced it at the Hampton Drag strip as a bracket car. I got that right from Zul.

Mr. Gasket stickers aren't in the same location. I'm surprised that car passed NHRA tech with those 1/4 panels. I always thought body mods were not allowed in Pro Stock in that time frame.

The cars were already backhalfed by then. The pic when Zul owned the car was late 72,early 73 probably. Some cars already had tube chassis by then. Did you ever see the wheel openings of the SRD Vegas? By early 72,engines were set back under the firewalls, front wheels were staggered, front clips were drooped. The class evolved fast.

At least 73 if not 74. That appears to be a 73 or 74 Laguna in the background.

.
Besides the differences noted, Zuls car has a center strip on the roof and the other car does not. |

Was the Richie Zul car a ZL1 or a COPO Iron motor ?
