[quote}Id like to offer to take what ever pictures you guys want of my 1968 Z/28 I owned in 1974 but I'm thinking that a clone could be made from them . So in that case, prove you have one with some paperwork and I'll take em. Let me know what parts of the car you want taken.

Edit got timed out, her's a pic again. BTW, I have another buddy that has a 302 block sitting in his garage, but it may be a '69.

Seeing the photos have me convinced its real. I say keep the 327 in it for now. It makes it a much more dependable "driver".

[/ QUOTE ]

You can tell it's real by looking at the pictures?? I would be curious to know how.

Obviously not by the non-original 327 or the non original shifter. What tell tale signs convinced you?

Ok, the tire decal is in the glove box. Which tire decal?

The owner clearly stated the motor was not original and the Muncie was not matching and he wasn't sure of the rearend, the rally's are not correct.

Now, a set of pictures proves it's a real Z/28?

I knew I'd get flamed for not prequalifying that statement. Based on Redneck's story on the car while he owned it, his information from the original owners and the photos, I am convinced its a real Z/28.

There are more things in those photos that are correct than are incorrect. For starters, the first thing I noticed are the runway stripes. Almost every Z/28 clone I see, and sometimes even real restored Z/28s, the runway stripes are incorrect. Even the one's on my 67 clone are incorrect and I made the painter buy the stencils. The correctness of Redneck's stripes I have only seen on real Z/28s. A 327 in a Z/28 is not as uncommon as you think. Many 302s were replaced over the years, especially if the car was used primarily for street duty. Yes I'm taking on faith about his story from the original owners, however based upon what I've seen so far, its well worth what he paid for it, especially when you consider its sentimental value to him.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. For a driver/crusie in car it's fine for me. I know it will never be worth as much as a survivor matching ## car. but that only comes into play when it comes time to sell, and trust me I've got plenty of other stuff around that will go first. This will be the last to go. Bear in mind the car was painted around 1990 so a there wasn't a lot of repo parts then.

Redneck, Understand that there are reasons why people around here are just naturally sceptical about stuff...and with good reason. There have been several people come on this site and talk of a car they just bought that is undocumented and/or questionable, saying that they "don't care what it actually is for sure because its a "keeper" or they "don't intend to ever sell it", etc... only to list the car for sale in the classified section of this same site a few weeks or months later, basing most if not all of the authenticity of their car on what people have said in a previous thread when they were simply congratulating the buyer on his purchase and giving their opinions based on a few outside pics. Now keep in mind I'm in NO WAY saying that I or anyone here thinks thats your intention, I'm just giving you a little background on why people like to know for sure if a car discussed here is legitmate or a clone regardless of what the owner's claimed future intentions with the car are going to be. The car looks really nice, and if its a real Z, you got a screaming deal, correct driveline or not... If it isn't a real Z, you still got a nice camaro for the money... If its not too much of a hassle for you, post some pictures of the stuff people want to see to make their own decisions about its legitimacy, and all questions should be answered.

btw, and just fyi... there were tons of repro parts available by 1990, so thats really not a good indicator of legitimacy either.

I understand 110%. Very few on here know me personnally so I fully understand any questionable issues here. I have read a lot of the "I've got this COPO car that has a 454" but I know it's the real thing because my cousin said so. Then like you said it's on E-Bay as a documented COPO car per the Yenko.net website.
Only time will convince everyone that I'm sincere with the car and I can relate to what is being said. At least everyone on here has made some very honest staements good or bad.

TOM406, Yes that was me that turned down the 40000 for the 68Z. The offer was from someone who intended to immediately sell the car.

The car (68Z) that went for mid 60's was a fully restored (quite some time ago)RS car. I may have some photos of it and will look and PM them to you if you are interested and I can find them. There is another 68Z currently advertised for 68000, which just completed an extensive no expense spared restoration. I don't know if the just restored car has sold or not.

Got my flame suit on Gents.....................Fire away!!!!!

Seven years ago I parted out a 68Z similar to Redneck's car. Non original motor/tranny but had the factory 12 bolt, interior, nice sheet metal and a few 302 motor parts in the trunk.

I more then tripled my $$$$ on that one.

Did you make $27,000 parting it out? if not, sounds like the smarter thing to do would have been to keep the car intact.
