He'll begin to realize how cool his dad is now the two of you are working together to go faster. It's a great feeling now and getts better with time.
I sure love looking at old videos of me and my dad at Atco. 1993 doesn't seem that long ago till I look in the mirror. |

The more I spend, the slower we go. Set the timing with a dial indicator today, had to install the flywheel without the key. Put the new belt on. Went to TnT.
We ran a 19+, a 20+ and another 20+. We only got three runs in. Engine runs rougher, clutch is no better. The second run was with the timing all the way retarded, third run had the timing all the way advanced. Higher rpm on the stand though, 6000+ when I pull the cable - goes nowhere at the line when there is a load. Fun factor is diminishing for both of us. Lots of help from the other Jr guys, but nothing looks wrong. Not sure what to do next. Did a leak down and compression test, both appeared fine. If I can get 5500 to 6000 rpm on the warm up stand I thought the engine was good enough for 13-14's. I have to come up with another plan. Plan B: ![]() ![]() Had this in the basement for 10+ years for a go cart project, (longer than 8 year old Benjamin!). Turns out its a Raptor engine - which is the standard for 12.90 cars! Long story short, its on, it runs - nice (!), wide open idle was over 5,000 rpm ,and our impromptu street testing out front yielded a couple of nice launches!!! Benjamin is thrilled, I'm relieved - for the moment - and we are looking forward to the next oppotunity for TnT. Not to be skeptic, but I'm hoping for the best. ![]() ![]()

Well! We hit TnT this past Friday night: 12.69 @ 50+ mph!!! We pulled the weight bar out of the truck (that we've been hoping to need at some point!), and threw 25 #'s on it. The general ratio for a 12.90 Jr is 10 #'s = .10 et.
Got another run in, 12.79 at 50+ mph! The 25 pounds slowed it about a tenth, primarily in the 60 foot. We are going to leave it alone, as we feel the 64 degree temp with 72% RH will change for Sunday - which is supposed to be in the low 90's. We think the weather will slow us down to the 12.90+ range. This is a huge relief, Benjamin is all smiles - that's what its all about! Fast forward to Sunday morning: Right out of the box at 9:30am our first run was a 12.909 at 49.9mph! Benjamin had a nice reaction time of .039. Temp was 75F, 45%RH, we left at 3400 rpm. This was a picture perfect run, I'm not sure you can tune <.009> out of a 12.90 combo. Second run was at 11:15am, and we slowed a bit to 13.166 at 49.5mph, so we took off the 25#'s. First round at 1:02pm we dialed a 12.90 and it really picked up going a 12.64 at 51.2mph - not sure why, but it might like the heat as it was ~ 87F and ~50%RH. Also, the starting line was not nearly as tacky (that means less resistance, and actually will speed up the car). We lost the round, but it was a good day, it felt great to run a spot on 12.909. Looking forward to the next time out. I guess we'll put a fork in that old engine!

Hmmmmm. Benjamin runs a 12.64.
Pop's best with the Deuce is 13.50. Sounds like the fork got stuck somewhere else. Great Fun M! Congrats to both of you.
