To late not to sound like a jerk Jeff. First of all, I don't know what you paid for your JL8 nor do I care but I paid a pretty penny for my Deuce and have thousands more in it in improvements over the past year and a half. Might actually be more money than you have in the JL8 that you have been restoring for the past 15 years. I will say it again. I don't give a $hit how much money I have in the car. It is getting driven like the MF was stolen. That is the bottom line. IT IS ONLY A CAR. It is insured and already a restored car so it can be restored again. If you have to worry and stay up at nights worrying about the car the "you have spent your life savings on" maybe you should change your priorities, sell it, and improve your quality of life.

Well Frank, now you sound like a jerk. Apparently you have money grwoing on trees or access to an unlimited bank account. Like a lot of regular people, I don't have access to funds like you do. Why do you think I'm driving a 1988 4Runner every day, because I like it? I have sacrificed all my income the last 6-7 years to make my crossram JL8 car a reality. But when it's done, I'll be nervous about driving it in NJ because the chances are very high something bad will happen. I know insurance will cover any damage, but I'm not waiting another 5 years to have it fixed again. And you have no idea how much I have invested in my car and it's probably more than you do in your car so get off your soapbox. You can't join any discussion in a civil manner, can you. I apologize to others reading this but Frank is way out of bounds with his attitude!

[/ QUOTE ]

Jeff,
It's a frickin car, get over it already - and drive the stupid thing when it's done. Trust me, a lot of guys have done what you are doing - me included, once it's done what are you going to do - spend the rest of your life braggin about how it sits in your garage at home? Who cares what they are worth, or what a person's buy-in price was, they are simply cars that can only do one thing - drive on down the road, or 1/4 mile

PS: your car would be done sooner and cheaper if you would get busy and work on it yourself

In 50 years we will mostly all be dead by then so now having one of these cars is simply the price of the good life now.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think the more likely scenario is 5 years from now the people running up the prices of these cars will lose interest and will go onto their next hobby "whim"/ "fancy" whatever you want to call it and leave the car hobby in the dust...and never look back. Bidding at places like BJ is nothing but a pi**ing match anyway to thse guys. Mines bigger than yours deal.

Amen and pass the gravy! I look at the opportunity to go out and enjoy my car on a regular basis. Maybe I am too simple, but it is a car, I can find replacement parts for most everything on my car. I will try to put a smile on other people's faces when they see my car rolling down the road and keep a smile on mine that is actually a result of having my back slammed into the seat by extreme amounts of torque!

I can see both sides of the argument between Jeff and Frank,
As for Jeff, he is working his butt off to make his dream car JL-8 a reality and is sacraficing any extras and comforts to do it as he isnt in the catagory of people who can plop down 40-60 grand to get it done at once without wondering if he will lose his house and have to live in the car while its getting done and he doesnt have the time to do it himself so when its done he wants to baby and cherrish it and keep it out of harms way because if something happens to it he has just spent the better part of his life for and on a car,

On Franks end he belives that these cars no matter what somebody paid for it or what some damn book says its worth is going to drive it the way it was designed and suppose to be driven, drive it like you stole it! If something happens you call your insurance agent up and tell him its time to enforce that giant 3 hundred buck policy you have and get it fixed.

Im more on Franks side with this, If I cant ride the piss out of it and enjoy it why bother having it, I can always go to a museum or the SCR shows and look at the cars and check them out with out having to wonder if the humidity controls in my garage are working correctly because God forbid there is moisture on the half million dollar car or worse theres some little kid walking near it with a popsickle...
We all know its more fun to drive than to trailer and wax the exhaust system all day and there are way better investments than muscle cars which are called houses.
So in the end, As Rob said, do you own your car or does it own you?
I own mine and Im going to beat her and she's gonna like it most of the time

Get off YOUR soap box. We have been listening for years about your JL8 and all the woes of you having no money to finish it and how you will be afraid to drive it. Also how do you know what my financial status is? I am also a regular guy. I worked my ass off so I could buy a Deuce and am not going to just sit and look at it in a garage. Life is to short for that. Take my advise, when one day the JL8 is done drive it out of the resto shop sideways. It is very liberating. The night Neal delivered my Deuce to me I took it out the second he pulled away. I tore down the street at 1:15 am with the car running like $hit, a 4.56 gear, and no working headlights. I could barely contain myself and couldn't believe that I actually owned a Yenko Deuce. THATS what it is all about.

Personally I am restoring my GTO just like it came from the factory, (frame off nut and bolt detailed resotration) then when I am done I am going out and taking it to the drag strip, (my wife thinks that I am nuts) that is what the car was built to do, so that is what I am going to do with it. What good is a car if it just sits around, I might as well play in the stock market.
