If that Camaro hooks up, I'm in big trouble. Let's take them to the track and give those guys a thrill.

Joe C. leaving...

I must apologize to all the SYC members and Nova lovers out there....I did a bad thing and have failed you all.

Saturday morning, Mark M (LateBrakeU2) and I made our way down to Orange County to the Cars & Coffee cruise. After checking out the incredible variety of machines we made our way over to Joe C. and his original SS Nova. Many of you have read the story of this original owner '69 SS 350 Nova purchased at Harry Mann Chevrolet in Los Angeles and seen this Nova depicted in the photos and text in several posts on this site and may have possibly seen the story in Hemming's.

We talked and made some new friends while Joe showed Mark the pictures and documentation for his sweet Cortez Silver Bullet and then it happened.......Joe: You guys want to go for a ride? Mark and Bart: Really? are you kidding? yes we do!

As I shoehorned myself into the front seat and Mark was just about bent in half in the back, Joe fired the little Nasty Nova up. We idled through the parking lot lined with people checking this car out and as we pulled onto the street there was a sign that said...No Burnouts!

Being a gentleman, Joe cruised normally around the corner and I could feel how tight and smooth the drive train was, very impressive. As we were driving I noticed how clean the interior was, the headliner, dash and seats had virtually no wear on them and this stuff was original to the car. Both Mark and I were really impressed with the condition of the car.

Here is where I let you down, with my camera in my pocket and me being smitten with this Nova, Joe, without warning stood on that sucker and ran hard thru the gears, remember 4:88's in this baby. As Joe continued to run thru the gears and then accelerate up the freeway on ramp both Mark and I had huge smiles on our faces as our senses were full of high revving, tire smoking small block and neck snapping horsepower. Cool.

It was then I realized I had forgot to film the spirited test drive in Joe's awesome Nova. Bummer. Sorry gang. Ha Ha Ha

I later called Bruce to explain my dismay and his response was "I Suck" because I got a ride and there was no video to document that ride.

PS
Dave L we saw your Chevelle but missed you, next time buddy.

Yes Bart...thanks for the call

You do suck... But it's all good. Glad you were able to get a ride. It would have been funny even to get a picture of Mark in the back seat

Hi Bart,
Sorry I missed you and Joe on Saturday. I was there with my 66 Chevelle SS. I saw Joe's Nova and looked for him a few times but no luck! The next time your going let me know.
Later,

First of all . Now for the serious stuff. I, too, did something that was bad and very dangerous. You see, I always forget that I'm driving something that can do a lot of damage. What I'm getting at is, if you do what I did without warning, the occupants in the car might get a dose of whiplash, or worse!! So, I totally apologize for any "trauma" I might have caused you guys on our little "test drive". Can you ever forgive me!! It was actually my pleasure (not the potential whiplash though), and it feels good everytime I can get on that puppy!! Hopefully we can get together in a few weeks at the Donut Shop in Huntington Beach to sample some more cool stuff. Thanks again Bart for the kind words. And take care Mark. It was nice to finally put a face with the name.
