So, how many of you who have some of these Supercars don't have them registered with plates to drive them occasionally? Seems kind of like having a television you don't watch....but the money is pretty serious on these cars-- and big risk to drive them with the idiots that seem to clog the roadways.

hey Marlin...if you were driving along the back roads in Iowa and came across this car[cass] in the ditch...would you buy it, or bury it? what's the right thing to do?

Steve:
Don't know what Marlin would do, but since I LIVE on a backroad in Iowa, I'd drag it home and put the hulk in the showroom as-is (you know how I feel about unrestored cars....). Heck of a conversation piece, don't you think?

That's a very hard question to answer. If I was the one to find one like this, I'd pass. I don't want anything to do with a rebody nor the leftovers from a rebody, but I don't think they should be buried either. What ever is left behind should be made public, it's only fair to the current owner.

I've passed on several questionable cars over the years, they just aren't my 'cup of tea'.

next question...if you were driving the back roads of Iowa and came across Schonye...would you give him a ride, or shove him in the ditch? [he's a democrat, don't forget]

That's a tough one....but since he's a car guy I would be inclined to give him a ride so I can get him going in the "right" direction.....

Ahhhh..... Now you're really asking the hard questions!

Well, the parable goes like this, '...what you've done to the least of these, you've done to me....' so I'd have to be a good samaritan (neither republican/demmy), and give him a ride.

Phil, sometimes people who rebody cars don't register them with the DMV. If you're not going to drive it on the road, and it's going to be in a collection, it doesn't necessarily need to go through DMV except for a title change once. I expect that may not always happen. Besides, if that happened in the 80s it's been outta the system to long to come up on a civilian search. Probably even police after 15 years. Remember in Ia. and a lot of states, if there's not transfers in a state alotted time frame,(5-10 years) they fall outta the system so to speak.
Think about it. If you had a rebodied Yenko that someone might want to do a vin trace on would you put it in the DMV system?

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually if the tags came with the Iowa title and you are from another state Iowa would never hear of the car being titled or registered in your home state. For example, I am still on record as owning several cars in arizona that I sold and they went out of state. state only has last known owner which for anything over 10 years is microfish only if available at all. the car could be registered anywhere other than iowa at this point.

Bill is right. Some states will asign a title brand for 'out of state' when/if the new state notifies the previous state. Either way, there is sometimes no indicator that the car is long gone from a given state!!

Thank you for the vote of confidence gentlemen. Actually I tend to agree with Pat Buchannan more these days than Harry Reid. Your problem is that Pat thinks Mr. Bush, and the neo cons are idiots. Maybe we could get an Oprah, Pat B. ticket.
