Just wanted to share some thoughts on the recent Hemmings Muscle-Palooza event held at Lebanon Valley, NY. First, there were some great cars there and the SYC was well represented. That's where the positive part ends for me and the negative begins.... I have been to 3 of the last Hemmings events at the Valley......that track and facilities looks the same as they did 30 years ago....bathrooms are a pig stye, food vendors are poorly organized and dirty, etc..but the thing that really took the cake were the low-lifes parked next to me and Benny who were having a binge drinking party....they started promptly at 10am and by noon were drunk...they had over 100 empty beer cans piled up on the ground under an old Chevy hotrod....loud..rude...stupid drunk.....around 2pm one of the party animals starting puking next to my car..he was just spraying his over indulgence everywhere ..we had to move the car...they even had a small child in tow that wandered around through the drunken maze..they used her carriage to hold one of the coolers of beer!! This is not why I expect from a show sponsored by a benchmark outfit like Hemmings....I never once saw any track people or Hemmings people making the rounds to observe or say hello ....with all the advertising done in major car publications that promotes bringing a kid to a car show..you would think someone would stop this kind of nonsense....this is certainly not the example we need to set for future car hobbyists....I plan on writing to both Hemmings and Lebanon Valley to express my concerns and anger over this kind of behaivor....the best part is these characters drove home from there in those same hotrods....glad I left first.

Tom, That's a bummer. I was there as a spectator...first time at that show. I agree with everything you said. I didn't see the a-holes you mentioned but I saw enough of that bathroom to not want to go in there ever again. A porta potty would have been a major step up. I also thought it was poorly run for such a prestigious show. Dogs walking around is another peeve of mine. I could do without the drag racing announcer too...automatic headache. Well...I plan to send them a note as well. Maybe if enough of us write them, they'll make some improvements.

Steve, After reading what happened to the original paper work of the 1968 Z/28 convertible. Please tell me that those were copies you had around your car.

Oh yeah. I've been using laminated color copies for years. I cant comprehend bringing originals to a car show, not just based on the theft loss possibility but the simple Ultra Violet light damage that sunlight causes. You see Mopar guys with their original broadcast sheets in direct sunlight taped to the underside of their windshields. It only takes a few hours of direct UV light to start those original color print broadcast sheets down the irreversible path of degradation. That guy with the original paint 71 Challenger R/T had two of his factory broadcast sheets sitting right on the dash the whole day. I could swear they were a lot lighter at the end of the day than they were at 7:00 am.

NEVER EVER BRING ORIGINAL DOCS TO A CARSHOW. Store them in a fireproof safe or the safe deposit box at the bank.

Tom

I too am sorry that you had to deal with that stuff next to you.. I had some good peeps around me all day and saw none of that drinking.. the bathrooms.. Yes.. that was nasty.. I'll play devil's advocate here for a moment though.. and no offense.. but can I ask you?? Did you once seek out any Event Staff to make your complaint known and heard while it was actively going on?? There is no time like the present to fix a problem.. Not sure what if anything would have been done.. but I know if I were the guy reading the forthcoming letter from you.. I would be saddened to hear of this, but I would also be asking myself and you.. why didn't you seek out Staff attention? There were HMMM Orange Shirted People around all day in the show area.

Again, just playing the Flip side here, not endorsing the behavior.. bummer for the child too....I did enjoy meeting you though!!

I think the HMN staff may have been stretched a little thin at this year's event. After the rain out on Sun. they told some of us FAST guys, that they had to start turning people away at the gates, by around noon.

On a different note, if anybody else was racing that weekend, did you see the "track hillbillies" at the far end of the shut down road? I got a chuckle out of those guys after every run.
