Joe is absolutely, positively right on the money. Joel is doing the exact same thing he did 35 years ago. Only the technology that he has available to him has changed, not the incentive or the goal.
What do any of you own that you'd like to line up at a stop light against that car??????? ![]() ![]() |

Funny ![]() [/ QUOTE ] Yep...you're right Joe! This car looks great...and I'm sure that it'll haul a$$, too. I'm thinking that back in the late 60's when the Baldwin Motion cars came out...that a lot of people thought that those cars were over the top, too...crazy paint...extremely hot rodded engines... WOW...same as now...Good post Joe! ![]() ![]()

Watching the highlights of the past BJ Palm Beach auction last night, speed channel had highlights of the SEMA show as teasers for the upcoming SEMA highlight show airing the begining of Dec, well they showed the unvailing of the Motion car and a few tidbits of it, they were very pumped about it.

No offense meant on the "pimped" comment; I guess that's what I get for using vernacular. I suppose what I meant was "loud", "extreme", "big wheeled", etc. To me anyway, a lot of the styling is pretty similar to Foose and other guys doing what I'd call "modernising". I just don't like it.
![]() I appreciate what the Motion guys do, but I tend to like their "more subtle on the outside" projects like Suydam's dusk blue Camaro or Hassett's '68 L-88 car, that you'd have to look twice at to know what you're dealing with. I think that's why I like the original Harrell cars, like Sandlin's Chevelle (Joe Swezey's ex) and Joe's current Camaro or the Tommy K/Ray M 427 Novas. Guess that's why I own sleepers with no stripes... I think the number of choices available is part of what makes the hobby so cool. ![]()

When I first got my car in the summer of '69 I was riding by my friends house, saw him outside and stopped to BS --got out to talk and left the engine running--rumbling and tappets clickin away--A old guy across the street wiping down his old Desoto --Comes across looks at the car and yells over the engine noise--"Is this one of those experimental cars"---- All those cars you just mentioned above were "loud and extreme etc" back in the day stripes or no stripes---including mine--- And sleepers were just sleepers when the engine was off -- ----------Wild and crazy kids---We were called other vernacular terms back then----------"Modernizing does put a strain on my Musclecar roots--but so does gasoline prices---------

I think it is lunacy to think that a car is worth more because it was sold by a particular dealership. Who cares?? The magic was done after the fact. [/ QUOTE ]Actually no, with a true Baldwin-Motion car the "magic" was done before it was sold to the first owner, which is part of what makes a lot of people seem to value or covet these cars more than say just a "Motion prepared" car. Lots of guys took their cars to Motion for work, or purchased parts from Motion to install themselves, but a genuine sold new in full Motion trim car is a horse of a different color IMO. Not too many folks had the means or cajones to walk in and buy one of the pre-built Baldwin-Motion beasts off the showroom floor and then try to drive it regularly on the street. It's that simple idea of being able to walk in a regular dealership as a regular nobody and go from "zero to hero" if you had the coin to make it happen. It's akin to being able to buy a competitive Pro-Stock car at your local Chevy dealer today. I don't think it would matter much though if Joel had other "network" dealers selling his pre-prepared cars off their lots back then, they'd simply be Reedman-Motions, or Malcolm Konner Motions. Consider yourself lucky...you've got both Motion and Baldwin Motion cars. Not too many can make that claim. ![]() |

Having built a 69 Pro-touring 69 last year I can say the car is very nice. The pictures don't do the color justice -best red I have ever seen. Alot of quality stuff and workmanship went into this first one.
If you saw it in person you would be amazed at how mean it looks. Reminded me of a great white shark for some reason. Just oozes performance. They thrashed to get it done, so it still needs work - which they will attack before BJ,06. Things that I did not care for are the rear fenders are flared too much for the tire/wheel placement, i.e. the tire should sit right on that outside lip of the fender. The exhaust exit setup allows you to see all the rear suspension, etc from behind. Amazing car, they will fine tune it make it better for sure. Loved seeing it. The remote controlled hood fits perfect and was cool to see in action. |

I can appreciate the workmanship and fabrication that went into this car but I'm not a big fan of the pro touring look.
I prefer the original 1969 Phase III's. |
