If i remember correctly the car has the rolled tips, they are still on the car but the original owner had put a glass pac on one side and the hanger was broke so i took that of and put on a aftermarket exhaust with the stock tips,i do not remember if it had a resonator or not,i will have to check the old system, was not in good shape that is why i took it off

By the way, who is Rick Nelson and what services does he offer?

Rick is SS427 on this board, and he happens to restore musclecars, with the current one being a '69 FG Y-Camaro (correct me if that's wrong, Rick). But, there was also a Rick Nelson with a prestigous record career back in the '50s & '60s. You don't suppose, do ya...?

Joe, only the chambered exhaust got the resonators in 69. Without them the system was very loud! I have owned and worked on numerous unrestored 69 Chevelles and the majority have the "angle cut" tips and not the rolled tips as seen on a couple of restored cars. The rolled tips have been found only on a few original cars and I am thinking only out of one plant. I have been researching this for a long time and I am curious to see the tips on Chads car also................RatPack....................... .......

From what I read on the rolled edge exhaust tips, they were used in early production and got a lot of complaints because the water from condensation would collect in the rolled tip. The water would then sit on the base of the exhaust tip and rust. One original owner said he had his replaced under warrantee and got the cut off ones as replacements.

I owned a couple of low mileage L78 ('69) Chevelles a few years ago and they both had the "cut" tips...both of these cars were Baltimore built cars..

I have pictures of original Yenko Chevelles on Yenko's lot from 1969 and it clearly shows the cut style tips...BKH

Belair62, Baltimore, very early, before COPO production ever started. That is why I am curious to see what Chads car has. I have owned three unrestored 69 SS Chevelles from the Baltimore plant and all of them had the slant cut tips and production ranged from 09?-07?. I am thinking that there were possibly only a handful of the rolled tips ever produced. I don't have my notes handy about the exact production date but I am almost positive that the two or three cars found with them originally were all late August 68 build cars. There was a BY Yenko Chevelle that was restored that had the rolled tips and I don't know if it actually had them on there originally. I think the owner had one tip and used it as a copy to make the set for the car. I have only seen one original set personally and a restorer friend of mine has seen another car built the same week in Baltimore. Wish there were more original cars out there to compare..............RatPack......................

That B. Y. Yenko Chevelle appeared in a magazine with the rolled tips and they said they were original. I believe it is an early Yenko with 03A build but I am not sure if rolled tips were really on it new. I was told the owner of the car or the guy who restored it was or is the one selling the repro rolled tips.
