No, it doesn't need a full resto, just doing an under hood detail and rebuilt the engine, the engine had some paint flaking in a few spots, some small parts were getting dingy looking, installed new clutch, etc,

We have an AC Delco dealer near us, so I used an AC Delco original equipment clutch, it comes as a kit w/ throwout bearing, pilot bushing, & allignment tool, I installed a pilot bearing in place of the bushing, installed a new GM Clutch fork,
I aligned the bellhousing with my Browell Tool before the clutch went on.

Just curious. I have aligned bell housings, but all the 403's I checked were right on. Did you have to move anything on this one?

Pulled the dist. I noticed it had too much vertical movement, shimmed it to .015 vertical movement which helped stabilize the timing, recurved the timing w/ the vacuum line plugged so it is mechanical advance only, as I have done since 1970, installed a stop bushing so it can advance 17 degrees,
it has 38 degrees total timing all in at 2700 rpm, and 21 degrees timing at idle ,this cam likes the 21 degrees at idle, really helped smooth it out.
It cranks over easily & starts up instantly
This thing is coming around, idling nice at 1000-1100, very crisp on throttle response,
Vacuum is low at 5in.at 1100rpm idle, but comes up to 14-15in at 1800rpm., at cruising speed it should be fine.

Hi Mike,

A guy once spent a LOT of effort working though the intricacies of a -140 cam on Team Camaro. If you've got the time, here's the tread: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=155736

I run the -140 in my 302. Very cool to see someone tinkering with the old cam again! Hope you get her dialed in.

Nick
