By 1974, when gas was very difficult to obtain and much more expensive than we had been accustomed, I came about thisclose to trading in my 73 Z on a new 74 Pinto station wagon! Thank God the dealership did not have one just like I wanted in stock, or it woulda been a done deal

Since there seem to be quite a few other former 73 Z28 owners following this thread, let me ask....do any of you remember the color of your engine being noticeably more red in color than the traditional Chevrolet orange? Mine definitely was, and when I pulled the motor in '77 to make modifications, I repainted it to the 'proper' color orange.

Bill, I do not recall that it was notably more red than chevy orange, however I have photos of it in the shop, torn down at 5-6K miles for eng, knock. Turns out it was what we all believed but were afraid to admit (piston slap). I'll go thru my stash of pics to try and find them for scanning, but I'll have to email to someone to post as I've not been able to get that part of my (in)abilities to figure it out.

I finally found the day 2 pictures of my car. I think I really liked it better in this way than after returning it to the stock configuration.

Wow, have I learned alot from this thread !!!

I spent many nights ay Front Street and JFK stadium in Philly back in the early 80s in my best friend´s 73 RS LT Camaro. Although we always ´knew´it had an LT-1 based on the prior owner´s statements, we never even realized it was actually a Z-28. It had no Z emblems, no stripes and no spoilers. But definitely had the factory valve covers and alum intake.
It was a 4 speed muncie car also. (I spent many days under that car replacing the clutch)I wish I had pics of it with the centerlines and N50s.
Although he never raced in Philly, that car beat a heck of a lot of local cars at the ´parkway´in Levittown, Pa.
The good old days !!!

Thanks for all the knowledge !!!!

After reading all these posts about 73 Z's, I have to post pics of my 73 RSZ back in the day before and after I wrecked it and did the custom paint on it. When I sold the car, the new owner totalled it the very next day after buying it.

Wow...cool pics....that looks just like my friends car..minus the spoliers and emblems....and he had SST cragars in the rear and not the SS cragars,(I think I said he had centerlines in the prior thread) I remember going to a speed shop in Langhorne and buying the rims with him...I think it was called Banons?? but he had the same wide tires..do you remember what size tires they are?? ...my friends car was red, but almost an orangey..your car looks more orange than I remember his car...is that orange..or red??

Cool car and cooler pics !!!

If you are talking about my 73Z that I just posted pics of, it is red and those are 10" cragars on the back and I am guessing I had Mickey Thompson N50's on them.
