Good point. Yes a "U" Code is a 440x4 barrel 375 hp, and not a real "R" code 426 Hemi. So, it was a modified car not necessary a clone.
I took 75k for the car about a year ago. Roughly 25% less than what is was worth as compared to 1-2 years before I sold it. Still good money though. Had a '69 RS/SS Camaro, Hugger Orange, deluxe hounds tooth interior, 4 speed, 383 stroker car, strong number 3 car, closer to a #2 quality. Got 38k. Good price. About a year ago. Today's market: 30k IMO. The list goes on but after seeing what I got , 20-25% less than the height, and what the market will pay today, I would say that prices are softer than it was a year ago JMO. |

[/ QUOTE ] I see by your profile that you are a realtor. I have supported myself for the last 11 years buying and selling my own real estate. I understand the market and how related real estate and old muscle car are, as you certainly do. I think you are right on with the value of your Cuda. Currently as a 440 Cuda the value is about $60K and when you add the barton Hemi upgrade that all adds up to what you got for the car. I prefer to think of a car/situation like that as an engine upgrade. As the article stated the guy realized his mistake in getting rid of the original engine. Back in the day it was very commen when you blew the original engine to replace it with a larger engine. There are probably more old roadrunners out there today with 440s rather than there original 383s. You sound like a guy after my own heart. The last Corvette I had was a loaded 1966 Coupe with the original 327/300h.p. engine. Nothing special in my opinion for the engine, so I had it stroked and built up as a 383 stoker as well. Did it make any difference in the value of the car? Absolutely not, but I enjoyed it. |

It pinned me to the seat so hard that I couldn't lean forward without letting off the gas to shift into 2nd gear. What a dilema, having to let go of the feeling just to shift to another gear? I was thinking about this the other day as over the years you get used to it and learn how to expect it and brace for it that the feeling is not like it was the first time. You always see it in the passenger when you nail it though. ![]() |

Interesting thread. My only opinion is that while this is a Hemi car, I find it extremely unattractive. Not because it isn't in good shape and documented yada yada.......just because its ugly. later B and E bodies are just more appealing to many more people. You will really need to work hard to find a buyer who is into this body style and the rarity of it.
I love amost every car, new and old, but this style is just .........blah........especially when compared to the pinnacle stuff of 69, 70 and 71. Good luck with the sale. |

[/ QUOTE ] No doubt about the fact that it is not the sleekest looking car. I personally like the looks of a 1966 Mopar 2 door hardtop better. However, I "get" the sleeper/strpper look thing as well. If you think this car is ugly take a look at the early 60s Mopars like the Max Wedge Darts and Savoys. The have a face only a mother could love. The guys that were serious about racing really didn't care about the looks, it was more about power, weight, and money. There is a BIG following for these old sleeper/stripper cars in ALL makes in the hobby, but it of course is not as big as the following of better looking old cars. It was embarassing back in the day when a car looking like your grandma's pulled up to the light and asked if you wanted to race and left you standing in the dust. |

"The one current example I show below is a 350 h.p. car in a slightly lighter body, but still could not hold a candle to a heavier Hemi car both in the same tune on the 1320." Well I'm not so sure of this. You're probably talking about the '66 L-79 Chevy II and history shows that Bill Jenkins gave fits to Jere Stahl's Hemi Belvedere. We're talking Street Hemis here and not Race Hemis. There's a BIG difference right there and unfortunately many people get them mixed up. I've heard plenty of stories about those 66-67 Street Hemis getting there asses handed to them by those L-79 Chevy II's. Naturally, it's about power-to-weight and weight transfer and that EXTREMELY nose heavy STREET Hemi Belvedere wasn't even in the same league as the one-year earlier '65 A-990 RACE Hemi's.

I tell 'ya.....I just love those '62 Plymouth's & Dodges! They are my my favorites of that 62-65 era. They are an acquired taste! Check out the Mopars by Mosher website and just look at some of those '62 with the Doug's Fenderwell headers and dog dish hubcaps. Truly sinister-looking cars!
