Guys this is what I heard was the deal with Ferrari Dude. The Museum in Colorado is the Gateway Museum (Gateway Computers) the guy in the Ferrari hat was the brother of the founder of Gateway.

Ferrari dude = Alan Lewenthal
Gateway Founder = Ted Waitt

[ QUOTE ]
"I was ready to keep going," said Lewenthal, who represented a group of Colorado buyers who are setting up a car museum in Gateway, Colo. "I just wanted to buy that car for the museum. It's the best concept car in the world."

The Dude in the Ferrari hat that won the 3 mil car was not the buyer. The buyer was sitting in the second row right behind me. He told me it was going in his Museum in Colorado. The idiot in the Ferrari hat was probably his sweep boy. We heard later the Ferrari hat guy went to the bar and had all kinds of women hitting on him . Ha ! They thought he just dropped 3 mil on a car. The real buyer owns the Discovery channel.

His brother founded Gateway. Patrick

So that article confirms It was John Hendricks and his Wife Maureen that were sitting behind me. "John S. Hendricks is the Founder and Chairman of Discovery Communications,
Inc. Mr. Hendricks created the Discovery Channel which launched on satellite
in 1985 and now reaches over one billion total subscribers in 160 countries
around the world. Other services of Discovery Communications include TLC,
Animal Planet, The Travel Channel, The Science Channel, Discovery Health
Channel, Discovery HD Theater and numerous digital networks."

Nothing to do with Ted Waite or Gateway computers.

Great job Bruce. Enjoyed meeting and talking with some of the Yenko.net members and soaking up that Scottsdale sunshine. Only problem was, that sunshine was in liquid and frozen form! We call it rain and hail here in Iowa.....

20-20 hindsight: Should have bought the Lamar Walden white COPO for $65k a year and a half ago........

The LS6 convert that sold for $324k with buyers premium had a build sheet missing the corner that has the VIN. ?????!!!

I saw the Lamar Walden COPO sell for low 40's at a Mecum auction in 2000. I think you were offered the car in the high 30's shortly before the auction, Charley. The LS6 Chevelle convertible was a different car than the one that sold last March in Florida. It was optioned nearly identical, though. Both were originally bench seat with auto transmission.
The retractible was an outside project done by a Chevrolet engineer. The car sat begging to be sold for years at Proteam and they finally restored it. I would guess they have owned this car for about seven years if not more.

Pretty amazing how much prices on supercars have gone up in 4 years. Makes you wonder where they will be in 4 more years...I guess time will tell.
