I love these old drag racing threads. Here's my Pops at New England Dragway. Mid-late 60s. 62 Nova w/ a big Pontiac at the time. Ended up running a Hilborn injected 426 Hemi.

The "new" Bandito is a clone of that car. It was built by Tony Valerio Junior, who races it very chance he gets in the CanAm Stock Superstock, IHRA and our local bracket racing series.

A little FYI.... My Camaro is currently in the November Muscle Car Review with a little background and a few more pics. Also, I stumbled onto a fellow with several thousand vintage drag racing pictures. I offered to help him sort through the stuff, but j think he is overwhelmed. I'm afraid he is going to let others take advantage of his kindness and leave him "out in the cold" when it comes to money.

I just looked at the photos of "The Farmer" and a few things come to mind.
1st- I'm gonna dig around with some of my nostalgia buddies and see if they remember that name; I do not. "Jim's Automatic" kind of rings a bell. 2nd- the sponsor on the front fender "Racing Parts &Machine Co." was THE place to buy race stuff and have engines built in and around north Baltimore. They were located on Joppa Rd. in a rural area. A little outside of Balto. to the south was Coleman Brothers. 3rd- in the B/W pic in post #608867 at Aquasco, the opponent is Carl Hobbs a.k.a. "Super Fats". Hobbs had a few fast Camaros and did a whole lot of local stuff. He still has a gas station in Edgemere, MD, although I think his son my be running it. Not sure if any of his old cars survived.

Thats my aunt and my mother leaning on the car 1974. Car ran modified production with a 331,tunnel ram,M22 and a Olds rear with 6.14 gears. Car is restored back to original like Tom mentioned and i race the replica i built for him before he passed away. The car was a super highly optioned Y2 Camaro (Y2 meaning butternut yellow/black roof) with tilt wheel, power windows, fold down rear, 295hp 350, Muncie, 12 bolt, delux interior. Probably not a car that should have been turned into a racecar but he bought it in 72 and who knew they would be worth today. I have the original shifter and handle from the car and its now in my 69 Chevelle. Once i can convince my wife that i need another car and the money is available id love to buy it back but for now ill have to wait. Ive attached a pic of the replica.
