I had a bad experience at Jiffy Lube before and said i would never go back. But i recieved a free oil change from Jiffy Lube and thought i would give them another chance. Well that free lube ended up costing me $75 so now i know i will never be back

Come on - all you car guys - and no one has a friend in the business??
I drive a Lincoln Mark VIII and my wife drives a Trailblazer - without a lift and an engineering degree, your not getting those oil filters out.
You need to find a good guy and keep going to him. I have a friend who has been servicing my cars for over 10 years and I'd trust him with anything.
Last year I got a new set of tires from Tires Plus - they gave a complimentary oil and filter change with a set of tires. I watched from the garage doorway the "mechanic" carefully wipe the filter down without taking it out. Nice - never again!

I'm sorry you have had a bad experience with Tires Plus. I have CO-OWNED a Tires Plus store since 11/98. I would hope the experience you had was with a corporate store that is owned by Bridgestone-Firestone. The company kinda went to hell after Tom Gegax sold it to Larry Morgan who was bankrolled by Bridgestone-Firestone. Tires Plus was a mid-west regional company (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Michigan and Missouri) until it was sold to Larry Morgan. He owned several other tire stores under various other names in other states. He purchased the Tires Plus name and then changed all his other stores into Tires Plus stores. Larry only kept ownership of the company for one year and then turned over controling interest to Bridgestone-Firestone. There are several "Licensees" like us who continue to do a good job and have their customers best interests at heart. DO WE EVER MAKE MISTAKES LIKE HAVE BEEN MENTIONED ABOVE. HELL YES. SHOW ME A SHOP OR ANOTHER HUMAN BEING THAT DOESN'T. WE HAVE TO OWN UP TO OUR MISTAKES AND CONTINUE ON.

One of my ASE certified mechanics got in a hurry and double gasketed an oil filter here a while back and I ended up buying a new engine for a 300M. The customer told me he understood that mistakes do happen and while unfortunate he appreciated how we took care of it and that we HAD NOT lost a customer, we had certainly retained one.

Show me another dealership, another "chain" tire/quick lube/brake repair/muffler replacement facility that has not had any claims with their customers. It doesn't exist. DAILY people come into my shop and complain about the Chevy dealership or the Ford dealership down the street from me or the "chain" Muffler shop also down the street. It is just a fact of life. You can make some of the people happy some of the time but you can't make all of the people happy all of the time.

Like someone mentioned above, if you want it done to what you feel is right.......do it yourself ! ! !

That's the problem with big Corporate America - the only concern is the bottom line. I am a firm supporter of the independents and the little guys who take pride in their work! I have owned my own businesses and know earning the trust of your customers becomes your biggest asset. A happy customer may tell one or two friends what a great job you did, but a pissed off customer will tell everyone they meet what a piece of crap you are!
I go to places where the employees care and stand behind their services and I keep coming back.
I wish you were in my area because you are the type of person I would enjoy doing business with.

JD, you're a good guy. Most repair shops will replace an engine with another of like mileage. What that means is if they ruin you 82K mile Tercel's engine, they're search for another with 82K mileage. It's legal too. It's just like if you're 82K mileage Tercel is t-boned at an intersection. Your insurance will pay you for the value of this used car, and not give you a new one.

I once interviewed a repair shop owner who had a perfect record with the local consumer organization. He said his secret was never arguing with his customers, even if he knew he was right. One guy came in for an oil change and came back three days late claiming his air conditioning system was broken. He blamed the shop even though they never touched the system. The shop owner repaired the air conditioning system even though he knew he was right. Kept the customer,..although considering how nutty he was, I'm not sure that was a good idea.

I got one of the chains back a few years ago.
they were advertising a tire rotation so I took my '89 GTA Trans Am in to get the tires done. They actually noticed that the wheels were different offset from the factory after they got them off and told me I'd have to pay to have the tires dismounted etc. I told them they advertised a tire rotation and not a wheel rotation and after some heated discussion about truth in advertising and the better business bureau they agreed to rotate the tires. Their next ad had a disclaimer in it.

For transmissions I change the filter and what fluid I can get out and keep on driving. Even thats better than 90% of the vehicles on the road get.
