Your right it would be hard to say no to a higher price, but if you have someone you told you would take his deposit esp after either driving a few hundred miles or flying in and then the guy gets there and hes told the car just left, thats just not right.
Oh well if Enoch doesnt end up with it I would be its a fast resto job and then sold within the year

I agree with you Jeff. It comes down to the seller's honor and integrity. I had a buyer flying in from WA state for my first JL8 car and I told him I would hold the car for him without a deposit. Then I had guys calling me and wanting to wire me cash to buy it on the spot. I told them "no" and the guy from WA bought the car. But it seems to be all about the money now. I bet if someone drove to the guy's house right now they could still undercut the deal and buy the car.

Geez...Back off already. We have no idea if it was a done deal. How many times have I had someone tell me they are coming tomorrow, they no show and don't even bother to call and tell me. The decent thing would be for the seller to call the first guy and let him know not to come because someone else called and offered alot more. "A Bird in the Hand". We might find out tomorrow that someone else stepped up and paid the guy another 25K.

JeffH...What would you have done if you had promised to sell your car for 25K but before you ever get money you get told your car is worth 50K and you get offered that much ? Would you have still sold it for 25K ?

Since he had already booked a flight there was some cost involved for him so there's no way I could screw him over without reimbursing him. I've never flipped a car for a profit like most people do so I would stick to my word and honor the deal.

The decent thing to do would be to keep one's word. If he made a deal at $25K and said he would hold the car until the following morning that is what he should have done (and I hope that is what he did). I sold one of my '67 Z's a number of years ago to a guy over the phone and he promised to snail mail me the deposit. I agreed and half an hour later someone else called me and offered $5K more. I stuck to my original deal and would expect someone to do the same for me. I know it's $5k and not $25K, and maybe that's enough to make some go back on their word, but the least he should do is offer the car to the first guy for the same as the subsequent offer.
Since none of us really know what transpired this is all just conjecture at this point anyway...

I say the big $$$ buyer shows up at the house to pick up the car and it turns out to be a Naldwin-Botion car. (As may may recall, this was the dealership down the street from Baldwin Motion that would take the big blocks out of hipo cars in the late 70's and install six cylinders and then sell the original motors for scrap)

Jeff....You would still sell him the car for 25K even though he knows it is worth 50K ? If it were me I think I would have called the guy back and said sorry but I apparently made a big mistake when I assigned a price to the car. Even at 50K for this Nova it is going for half price if it is as described. If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

Does anyone know the seller's first name? Is his name Dan? If so, I may know a little about the car if it's the same car I'm thinking about. I don't remember if the one I'm thinking about is a 69 or a 70 but it is in New Jersey.
