[ QUOTE ] 1969 Z11 Pace Car when I was 14. Here's the Z11 back in 1977. All 145 pounds of me at the time (most of that was the hairdo). I had saved every dollar I had since I was born and bought it for $2,700. One of five kids, my parents were rather frazzled and could never keep track of who was who. I thought it was kind of weird when my dad OK'd the purchase and helped sign the paperwork. When we got it home my mom says to him: "You know HE is 14 and his brother is 16!" He just looked at me with that Al Bundy, head-shaking look and walked to the living room and sat down on the couch in front of the TV. My brother ended up getting a Daytona Yellow SS396 4-speed Camaro a month later. ![]() ![]() ...and the shnozola of the Superbird in the high school parking lot circa 1979. ![]() |

1969 Z/28 when I was 16 (1975). Cortez silver. Used to drive around w/open headers a lot. Sold it in 1977 for $1600 to buy a '77 Kawasaki KZ1000. Sounds crazy but they were plentiful back then - just another used car.
NJSteve - ever cruise through Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk? Not to far from West Haven. |

54 Chevy, 210, 2 door sedan. 235, 6 cyl, 3 on the tree. Found it on a car lot in 1962 for $475 negotiated the price all the way down to $450. Learned to power shift with the column shifter, shift lever eventually end up at the 12 noon position when in second. Dad asked me one day why shifter looked so strange, played dumb.

Did you sell it to get the bird at 16? That is amazing to have those back to back, but more amazing that you did it at 14, and then 16 years of age! Sorry I doubted you but could you blame me??? |

Those were just the first in my never-ending series of weird cars over the past 30 something years. I first learned how to take a car apart with that Z11. Unfortunately, I didnt learn how to put one back together til 3 or 4 cars later.

I had taken every outlet plate in the house off... Who's fault is that? The 3 yr old's or the parents?

My first was a triple black 69 Chevelle SS, I bought it when I was 16. Engine must have put out well over 400hp, I was always out of gas and the rear tires went bald all the time for some reason

My first car was a black on black '65 Impala SS when I was only 12 years old. Cost was $50.00 and all it needed was a battery. Got suspended from Junior High School for driving my own car to school...
Purchased three more '65 Impalas before I turned 13 (white, yellow and green). Most expensive one was $75.00 because it didn't need anything. Played musical engines, tranys, interiors, etc. with them in order to learn about "Chevrolets". So much for matching numbers on those cars... Gosh I miss the days of cheap solid classic cars.......
