I had also thought about checking with the original header company, to see if they might have records of direct ship to Engineering. Not conclusive proof, but a piece to the puzzle.

I would imagine you have some knowledge of business. I know it would be a nightmare here at my dealership just to find records over a year old in some of our dealings. If we even knew who the transport company or header company were, it would be tough.

Does anyone know who the transport company in Ohio may have been in late 69?

With all due respect Mr Knafel is not John Delorean, When you are the head of the Pontiac Motor Division and want something done it gets done. I have personally seen Billybobcat's GTO at events it is in fact the only GTO that has the engineering documentation to back up his words and is the only one acknowledged by most Pontiac people. He has owned this car since 1979 and it has more documentation then you can imagine. Stop attacking this man for what he speaks is the truth and he has paperwork to back it up. There is an extensive article in the GTOAA's Legend I will try to scan it in and post.

That 65 GTO is also a well known car to Pontiac people and in no way does this car built five years earlier when Delorean was in control and the Musclecar craze was in full swing give creedance to verbal word smithing.

I am a little worried about the Mrs. HvyChev thing though... Do we have "Francis Queen of the Day 2 Chevelles"?

Making the assumption these two cars where shipped out the back door. They very possibly could have been shipped individualy, not via normal transportation.

Do you or anyone know how special cars were shipped?

Would Jim M have access to shipping records? Has he ever gotten any for anyone else?

While researching for some shipping answers, I ran across this quote from Bill Knafel.

"I accepted more cars right out of Pontiacís engineering department than anyone else. The cars would come off the assembly line and weíd pick them right up."

Kinda makes me think the shipping approach may be chasing the wind.

"Engineering cars" right off the assembly line???

Steve, I think you missed the first part of that quote where he talks about building their own cars. It reads as follows:

"Well", he said, "we had redesign and re-engineering shops at our Pontiac dealership and we reworked everything. I accepted more cars right out of Pontiacís engineering department than anyone else. The cars would come off the assembly line and weíd pick them right up."

Here is a link to the National Firebird & Trans Am Club if anyone wants to see the quote:
