I don't think you were left with too many choices. It's a weak piece......the other side is not much better. I don't know that I would have done much different Paul.

You need some m/t super scavenger headers on that beast. What a sound that would be.

Like most every header I have ever installed, they need their "love taps" to fit properly. The Hookers had all the proper little dents for an effortless install (which is still a PITA on the left side). |

Here is the exhaust fitted and tacked.
I was welding the scraps from this together yesterday to dial in the settings, and was happy with the way working and how it looked. I was able to use the original rear hangers on the rear of the mufflers. I'll replace those with some reproductions and save the originals for another day. I must admit, I think I created my own problem for welding it up. I was always in the habit of greasing the pipes at the joints so I could get them to sit just the way I wanted. Didn't even give it a thought ![]() I have a couple of ideas to move forward. Not excluding the idea of a local fellow who is one hell welder.....including TIG. I just may enlist the help of a professional to get the results I want. ![]() |

Use aerosol carb or brake cleaner and spray it right in the joint and blow immediately to clean the grease out.

Be very careful with brake cleaner. There are many cases, including me, of people having lung problems after using brake cleaner and then welding. Look it up.
