Alan, are you sure Joe didn't already paint it that way? I've seen his work
Just kiddin' Joe...I'm just bitter cause Alan's knocked me outa the box with all of his projects. Alan, you need to stop

.... but I tend to think this has less as it's a paint delete, and wasn't painted on the line. You'd think that it would be a better paint job because of that, but appears to be worse.

It's wasn't paint delete, it was special paint. The car would have been painted on the line just like any other car, just a different color.

I agree, special paint is the more correct term. There were rumored back in the day to have been paint delete cars that were painted at the dealership. Other than perhaps bodies in white, I don't know of any that have been documented that way.
It appears that this car did spend time in the paint shop for something as that tag appears to me to address a paint issue, but does not state rework. The lack of the tag addressing an area of the paint on the car is what makes me think the majority of it was shot off line. If we hung a rework tag on something at our plant, you had to specify what was wrong, and that it was rejected. This tag just says to send it to the paint shop.

Isn't it at the paint shop right now? Took 35 years to get there, but hey, that's GM for ya.

They wouldn't take special paint cars off-line, they were painted on-line with the other cars. They just cleared the guns and shot the special paint that was provided. And a container of that same paint went over to the Chevrolet side so they could paint the front clip.

Looks like that tag says SPECIAL on the one side - to note it was a special paint car. Neat find!
