We'll then maybe paying for quicker delivery would keep the item out of their hands for any length of time and not give them a chance to lose it--Sorta like my wife and money...You didn't hear that from me...

AHHHHHHHHH UPS.. I bought a set of 291s that were delivered by big brown. Luckily I was home at the time as each head weighed about 70% of the driver's weight. So I unloaded them and paid the $151.00 for duty and brokers fees. That was on top of the $140.00 I pre-paid for shipping.. A month later I recieve an invoice for the 151.00. I called and explained this but I have received another invoice since. Oh, sorry to get off track here Rick, I am sure your part will arrive safe.

Epilogue 2 months later:
I finally received my full money spent refund from UPS yesterday. The item they lost was found at UPS overgoods at the Salt Lake City Utah hub.Apparentally it lost it's exterior adhesive shipping label, and that's where they ship those items of undetermined origin. It sat there awhile until they sold it at their salvage auction, which is routine. I later sent them a picture of the item, and Utah UPS hub did recognize the item as being sold at their salvage auction afterwards. They contacted the salvager of it and asked if they would consider selling it back to UPS,through Goodwill salvage..they declined. ![]() Anyway this entire situation could have been avoided if the sender would have just written my address on the box,as well as apply the label, and written my address down on a piece of paper and stuck that inside the shipping box too. I do this with ALL the packages I send out,but this sender relied solely on the small UPS 3X2 inch adhesive label. I would like to Thank all of you who contacted me with ideas and connections within UPS to try to find my item. UPS also has been nothing but helpful in trying to resolve this. They are human, and it happens. They stayed in touch with me constantly via email & telephone, and I feel went above & beyond the call of trying to locate this item. This is the only time I have ever had anything like this happen with UPS in the 25 years I have dealt with them, and I will continue to do so. I ![]() I'm watching Ebay to see if the salvager possibly throws it up there,so No I won't tell you what it was. ![]() |

Rick,
Even though you lost the item you had better luck with UPS than I did. They delivered a T-10 to me after they dropped it and broke two of the mounting flanges off the main case. The box was so badly damaged that one of the pieces had fallen out and was lost. I tried for four months to get them to even acknowledge their damage and pay for the repairs. Absolutely nothing from them. ![]()

Guys,
I've got a UPS story to beat the band! I ordered a high end graphics workstation some time ago and it was shipped from Denver to my location in NJ. My wife was home the day UPS pulled up to deliver the items. The monitor was a big brute of a thing and the driver evidently could not handle it alone, so he just rolled it off the back of the truck. You read it correctly! He rolled it off! ![]() Anyone know how high the back of the trucks are? Too high! The monitor's plastic case broke in several places. It was DOA. ![]() guy came to the front door with the packages, my wife asked him if it was OK to roll the boxes off the truck. He said they do it all the time with heavy packages because UPS wouldn't supply help for delivery of heavy packages. ![]() He claimed that he wasn't going to hurt his back for UPS. Well, I returned home later that day to find the boxes and unpacked everything. When I opened the monitor box, I knew there was going to be trouble. Then my wife told me about the "roll off the truck scenario" and I lost my mind. ![]() I contacted UPS the following morning and they immediately sent out an inspector. His conclusion you might ask? Well, UPS claimed that the monitor's box was "inferior" and not of a quality to protect the monitor. Can you believe that? ![]() I again told the inspector about the driver rolling the monitor off the back of the truck. Now, the driver claimed that he never did that and that my wife was mistaken. Accordingly, the inspector informed me that UPS would not honor the claim due to the packaging. So, then I asked why UPS in Denver accepted the packages if the boxes were inferior. That got him to thinking. ![]() suggested I try to resolve my claim with UPS Denver. My only resort was to contact the company I purchased the computer from. They in turn went after the Devner UPS office for damages. I did finally get a new monitor, but it took about a month accomplish this. I've had other UPS doozies as well, but this one was the best....... Steve

Similar story from UPS when they 'examined' the transmission case: they claimed "Inadequate Packaging"! They asked me to ship it back to Minnesota to their terminal so they could inspect the piece. I refused, but DID offer to have FedEx pick it up and handle the transfer at UPS's expense. You know how that was received!
![]() I contacted the seller and told him the story. He was very understanding and helpful. He even contacted UPS in MN to see what he could do. In my opinion the transmission was packaged very well. It was the 'inadequate handling' that caused the problem.

I use UPS and FedEx every day and have learned that if you want results, you CALL EVERY DAY till they are sick of you. I think they bank on most non commercial people just giving up and going away which is what most will do.
If you ever get bored, ask them to demonstrate what constitutes "adequate" packaging. It is quite humorous. ![]()

I'll bet that "adequate packaging" is a moving target...
