Call me silly, but the H/O might have a shot! Looking at the different events, you know that the Hemi is going to suck on the cones and braking. The AMC might shock more than a few people. The Boss 429 has to be in proper tune (as they all do). And of the GM 'A' bodies, who else had a rear stabilizer bar? It will be interesting whose cars they are using for this event. As we all know, if the cars have been trailer queens all of the time, they are not going to like being flogged.

The Judge had the fatest rear bar GM made in '69 (as I recall). Sure the H/O has a shot. But I owned a '70 4-4-2, 455 and it was heavier than any Goat or SS I've driven.

I'd prefer to see any of the A-bods win!

Still partial to the Hemi but I'm also realistic. The braking and slalom results will probably be disapointing. I hope the cars are equipped for a fair comparison. Rears, 4-speed or automatic and I don't know anything about the drivers. Patrick

In '69 you could get a rear bar on the Chevy a-bodies via F41...it was rare (in the 700s I believe), but it was available. In '70 it (F41) became standard on the SS package I believe.

Have pure stock versions of the following cars, I run them all in Pure Stock configuration, with electronic (pertronix) ignition being the only changes, and timing,,,,,except for the Chevelle I still own them all.

This is what they have run in the past 2 years.

70' Chevelle LS6 454 best time 13.27@104 4100lbs
69' Pontiac Judge RAIV 13.10@105 3900lbs
70' Buick GSX 455 Stage 1 13.34@104 3950lbs
68' Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet 13.06@103 3600lbs

Weights are with me in them.
As for the show:

The Fastest Pontiac would NOT be a 69' Judge, but a 69 Firebird and with a 400 RAIV, this car weighs 300lb less than a Judge and has vastly superior exhaust manifolds, due to the engine being in a different frame.
Another Top Contender would be a 73' 455SD Trans AM, these haul as* and are without question one of top 5 fastest pure stockers.

There is a HUGE difference in performance between standard GTO D-port heads and round port RAII,RAIV,SD heads. If the Judge on the show doesn't have a RAIV it will have zero chance of competing well.

The 68 1/2 428CJ Mustangs weighed 150-200lbs less then the 69' CJ models, and therefore are a couple of tenths quicker. These were probably the fastest Ford muscle cars, other than a razor sharp tuned BOSS 429.

Who will win the ET sections??...which ever car happens to respond best to the weather at the time, and is tuned the sharpest, and hooks the best. I think they all are within a few tenths of one another under ideal conditions. (which of course is extremely rare)

The Ford BOSS 429 like the Mopar Hemi, either will run fantastic if tuned properly, or will be a dissapointment. But if either one of those Hemi's runs near their potential: Everybody else goes home a loser.

I stand corrected, Don.

I remembered that Delorean left in '69, and the first thing the new GM (McDonald)? did to the GTO was sway bars.
But it stands to reason that it was probably for the '70 GTO -not the '69.
This means the H/O really DOES stand a better chance!
