Default Re: Whereabouts of a 69 Yenko?

Stefano, unless it was sold to another owner, probably wasn't the same one. The town of Elgin is quite a way from where I live, and where Westmont/Downers Grove/Hinsdale are.

There was a stripe-less (stripeless?) 69 Daytona Yellow Yenko Camaro at the National Musclecar Brokers (WAY north of me) that we saw a while ago. Had a letter from Jack Douglas Chevy verifying its' authenticity. Didn't seem like a Yenko though without the stripes and the headrests.

MikeNoun,
The Stripeless Douglass Yenko Copo you saw at NIAB is the car I now own. It always had the sYc headrests and Yenko Badges on it, but no stripes, even at NIAB.
Dana Sublet owned the car for approx. 15 years. The COPO wore Yenko Stripes when he bought it.
An incident involving a gravel truck on route 12, just outside of Richmond Illinois in the summer of 1988, on his way to work necessitated some paint work.
The body shop saught out replacement stripes but was informed that the Camaro was not on the Yenko list, only the COPO list, so it should not have the stripes replaced. The body of knowledge for Douglass Yenkos was extremely limited back in 1988.
Sublet, thus did not have the car restriped.
The black Yenko stripes are now on the Camaro, just like it was sold when new from Douglass Chevrolet.

Stefano I am almost positive the car you own I once lookd at. The car was parked in front of a auto repair shop on route 12 in spring grove in the early 90s. I had just bought my Yenko so couldnt afford to buy another one. It was very interesting because it had an original drive train, endura bumper and chamber exhaust, it was recently gone through and was a real nice car. It had Yenko stripes and emblems on it at the time but I was told it was a double copo. The Douglas story wasnt known yet so who knows.

Stefano, my apologies, the car did have the headrests. Very cool car, and I loved the documentation. I videotaped that (your) car as I usually do when I go to these museums and/or Musclecar showrooms.

Last year, the Volo Museum down the street had a gorgeous Lemans Blue 69 Yenko, fully detailed underneath. Unfortunately, it was a clone, but it looked great.

ssl78,
The Douglass Yenko was for sale in Spring Grove at the Gas/Service station which you mention. This was early 1980s however, not 1990s.
The Station was torn down and a mini-strip mall is now in its place. The owner of the station, described a bigger than average guy 6'2" and about 275 lbs was purported to be the original owner of the Camaro(still seeking this individual).
He also may have been a mechanic at Biggers Chevrolet prior to opening his own Gas/Service Station.
The Camaro only shows evidence of one repaint. Sublet and others who looked at it back then believed it to be mostly original paint.
It did have a full factory chambered exhaust system and all original components at that time including a factory Blue dot Multiplex Stereo ,as well as the options you mention.
Some remember it with a Rosewood wheel which was not on the Camaro when Sublet purchased it?
The subsequent minor modifications were made by Dana Sublet (headers,Mallory electronic ignition, replacement carb. and Cherry-bomb style mufflers in place of the Chambered mufflers).
Dana Sublet reluctantly put the Camaro for sale in 1999-2000. He needed $$$ for some family medical expenses.

Stefano,

Is your friend the lifelong Elgin resident, my friend "Big" Ken who has the "big" orange Camaro? He is called this in LaHarpe, because when we stand next to each other, it is obvious I am "little" Ken. The name seems to go along with "Lil Hoss". If it is, he probably has forgotten more about old SuperCars, musclecars and drag cars than I have learned.
