![]() <span style="font-weight: bold">HOW to determine whether the car was equipped with NC8 chambered</span> There really are not fail safe ways however if the car hasn't been restored and if any part of the original intermediate hangers (over the axle) are still on the car the Chambered Hangers are entirely different than the standard exhaust (whether std duals are equipped with or with out resonators.) The chambered hangers are attached with one bolt instead of two and they have a 1" x 2" metal retainer with a tab which goes between the bolt and the rubber strap (the rubber strap is much shorter and narrower) Here is an original retainer, this one was installed upside down from the factory as evidenced by the Hex shape of non-rusted metal around the bolt hole. ![]() When I purchased my L34 Camaro in the 90's the conventional thinking was the chambered exhaust was only standard on solid lifter engines. My L34 had a transverse system installed using the the original chambered hangers and hardware. It didn't fit to well. That's how I confirmed the car originally had chambered. This was also confirmed by the original owner who said he changed out the chambered because it was too loud. I do have an assembly line used system for that car but a gardner system is on it now. James the question I have is; did the same noise issue apply to the Chevelle chambered system. I have a copy of a build sheet that list that option on a July of 69 built Chevelle.

Yes it did,but on L-34,L-78 & L-89 equipped Chevelles.
TSB dates were not strictly enforced from what I've seen. |

The latest I have seen with paper is early may. I believe there is one in Jerry's book.
Steve, When reading the letter it doesn't specifically state that the chambered NC8 system was discontinued, only the date Chambered was dropped as standard and the date the std dual was discontinued and the std duals had resonators added.

Al Colvin ....C & C Reproductions circa 1987-90. Although these are done in S/S , They were off the Original GM Blue prints issued to 2 suppliers. One of which was WALKER EXHAUST. These C & C Components were nearly undetectable other than the material ... I'm not sure how many sets were made. He built both BB & SB set ups with the head pipes being the only difference. The hardware and hangers were spot on too... Myself and a friend were original investors and we each got the first sets available... mine for a SB Z/28 , his for a BB YENKO . (mine is still with me, under the car,,,, never been fired up yet) maybe someone has a set mothballed .... Tom</div></div> Update , The system discussed here, has been sold for use on a very deserving 69 Z/28....... Price was north of $4,000 for those who asked and inquired. Thanks to all with info and input in getting the facts aligned.
