Have to weigh in and agree with everyone. Best auction marketing, and execution I have ever seen. Dana and his crew are all a class act. I love the open mike with Dana working his "magic" between the buyer and seller.Only thing better would be to have one in Scottsdale so I don't have to watch it on-line or on my buddies fancy TV. The Chevelle collection sale really showed the market what quality cars in the right setting are worth. Of course the black COPO will always be my favorite.

Per the Mecum Website....

MARENGO, IL - May 19, 2009 --

"Hundreds of collector cars left the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds with new owners during the 22nd Annual Mecum Original Spring Classic Auction, May 13-17, 2009, in Indianapolis, Ind. The five-day auction boasted total gross sales (including buyer’s premium) approaching $40 million.

Mecum offered more than 1,000 high-quality collector cars and 350 vintage neon signs – which have exploded in popularity and value during the past few years – to registered bidders, reporting a 70% sold rate for the Indy auction."

The signs & other goodies were awesome as well...that FoMoCo distributor tester was SWEET! Anyone know if GM or Delco had a similar unit?

Did anyone from here pick up any of the signs, or the blender pump, or...etc?

Rob:

The sign auction was the fastest paced, crazy thing that I've ever seen. I don't believe a single auction lasted longer than one minute and most were less than 30 seconds. I tried to buy a sign but didn't bid quick enough.

I did buy an awesome car on Saturday though! Hats off to Dana and his crew for a great time and great auction. Ed

couldn't agree more. Easily the best auction I have been to. Quality of cars, lack of side show BS, and presentation by Mecum.........left all others, especially BJ, in the dust! Comparing the large quantity of truly quality cars to this Januarys Barret-jackson offering, proves that Mecum's reserve auctions and the fact that they keep thier eye on the ball (the cars), is like comparing apples to brusselsprouts!

IMO, the timing for the Mecum Spring auction could not have been better, and really gave our hobby a shot in the arm. Ever since the economy went south, all of the talk centered on what were musclecars worth now. Well, I think we now know. With so many musclecars, of all makes, models and condition at Mecum, whether hemi, LS-6, COPO, Shelby, etc, coupled with a 60%+ sell rate, we now have an idea where the market is, and should see cars for sale reflecting this.

We will always have the naysayers, who say our hobby is on the decline, but hard to justify, with not only quality cars drawing good money, but I saw a lot of good drivers change hands, which no doubt will show up at local cruises and shows. IMO, the musclecar hobby is as strong as ever.

Another question that got answered, could Dana attract enough buyers considering the large number of rare cars going across the block? No doubt that was not a problem.
