In this time of economic down turn, I am glad to see that the message of frugality has reached even our elite Spec Ops teams. Conservation of ammunition..........3 shots, 3 kills.

Maybe we should send a team of SEALS to Washington.

Had captives been released this way from the beginning, we wouldn't have a pirate problem. Our son-in-law has been to shooting competitions in Bisley England. What he says, basically, is that if a sniper, and his spotter, can see you, you're dead.

I'm glad they gave the team the green light to end this

That would be President Obama who gave the green light. Nice to see it end successfully.

I am sure if the rescue would have gone "south" someone from the fleet would have been on record as having ordered the mission.

[/ QUOTE ]

No, "someone from the fleet" does not have the authority to give the order to use deadly force in a situation like this. That has to come from the president, period. (If the pirates fired upon the U.S. Navy ship or on the seal team then they can shoot back--to kill, of course, and they could then rightly claim self-defense.) If this had gone badly it would have rightly been placed at Obama's feet. He has already gone on record as saying the "buck" stops with him so I take him at his word. Believe me, I am fully aware that had this gone "south" Obama's political opposition would scream for his impeachment--we'd never hear the end of it.

I'm waiting to hear the dead pirates being called "victims" and Obama criticized for using "too much force." I'll bet that's gonna' happen.

When insurgents were firing on the US Marine Camp at The Beirut Airport in Feb 84 with mobile rocket launchers, I sat "on hold" with the "red phone" waiting for six hours for permission to fire. Not sure who they had to ask, but it sure took a hell of a long time

Oh yea I get it "Mr President this is seal team leader #1 here" the pirate just popped his head up" Can I take a Shot? That is how the media kind of portrays the action...

No that is not how it works. The President gave permission for the operation up to and including the use of deadly force. The Navy took care of the rest, and I highly doubt the blame would have been placed on the President if the operation would have gone wrong. Obviously since the Navy was taking the force action the Navy would have taken the blame.

If the SEALS missed the shots for whatever reason who else would there be to blame??

Giving the president the 100% credit for the planning, bravery and training of our SEALS and the Fleet personnel is a bit much don't you think?

A decision that could have been made days earlier. I view it as an Easter publicity stunt.

I am glad Capt. Phillips was rescued and is safe. He is an American Hero for giving himself up for his crew and then trying to save himself. As far as Obama having anything heroic to do with this.... I don't think so.. He waited around for a few days and talked with his lawyers and advisors about what to do for his namessake... He signed papers to save his own butt and to make sure he would look good either way it turned out. A real President would have had a half dozen ships in the area in as much time as it would take to get them there and would have made a statement to the cowardly pirates to return our American immediately or face complete and utter destruction... Negotiate? ? ? Why ? This is America, we don't negotiate... We get our men back and blow things up when we feel like it.. This guy has no salt and is only concerned with himself.. he couldn't care less for our military or us... I am thankful the Military took care of business and returned the Capt. I say blow holes all over that ocean and eliminate the 16 yr old pirates....

Well said Tommy. The news is reporting the "pirates" have taken 2 more ships this morning. I guess they didn't learn anything afterall. Or mabey they aren't the least bit worried about the US or anyone else doing anything, as the 2 ships do not carry American flags.
