Remember back in Auto Shop one of the first things the teach you is NOT TO SMOKE around a battery!!! a leaking battery only needs a spark to blow ITSELF up. Most likely a bad cable arced when you turned the key.

Rick Good question.I was at a car show in a plaza. There was a beckers store and a restaurant. I got the water from the restaurant and the baking soda from the beckers store. My wife went for the baking soda and i went for the 5 gallon pail of water.Used a glass to pour the water over the fenders hood, rad, front rad support, and every where else
2 times 10 gallons of water.
It worked well. from now on I will carry 2 packs of baking soda with me just incase my other Delco battery explodes.

No one was smoking around the car so it must of been a battery cable, however I have new ones on the car.??
Maybe one of the cables was loose and sparked when I tried to start the car.

There used to be a Delco battery plant beside the truck plant in Oshawa. It was closed and torn down about 3 years ago. I think the production went to Mexico but don't quote me on that.

A spark from anywhere under the hood might have done it, if the battery is leaking fumes that's what ignites. To be super safe leave your hood up untilyou start the car so there is fresh air all around.

Not blimps, they use helium. Blimps are basically a large balloon of helium with a passenger compartment hung below them, while dirigibles (i.e. Hindenburg) were metal framed, fabric covered airships with internal hydrogen tanks.

-Cliff Clavin at your service, sir.

It's a little known fact there Normy, that the Hindenburg actually used Delco batteries to supply their electrical needs when they shut down their internal generators during docking procedures.

[/ QUOTE ]Well I am glad they moved production to Mexico. Lord knows we don't need anymore work in this country or work for our friends to the north. We are saturated with jobs. Especially manufacturing.

I had the hood up at the car show for about 3 hours, then I closed the hood and tried to start the car to go home.So the hood was open all the time.

So yesterday I found one made in the USA just like the GM battery. This battery is garanteed for 5 years with roadside assistance,if necessary, Bought it form CarQuest
model 624-MF. Took my other GM battery (piece of [censored])and sent it to the recycling people.
I wont bother claiming a new battery from Delco, dont need the problem!
