There is no simple answer, but I think there is a common element to the "bad" kind of flipping, and that's dishonesty. If you tell a seller that you'll keep it forever but have every intention to flip it ASAP, its dishonest and should be looked down upon. If in that same scenario you really did plan to keep it but circumstances forced you to sell, then its not the "bad" flipping. So I think its less about how long you have it, but more about your intentions from the start.

I've given this alot of thought and want to offer a fair option for everyone to consider...

It's my personal practice to be as fair/reasonable with the sale of cars or car parts as possible, especially if the deal is with a real car person (by gut feel, reputation or other means that I'm comfortable with). I almost never make a bunch of money, but I believe that somewhere, sometime, down the road, someone will return the favor to me when I need something at a fair price.

This hobby isn't about the $$$, unless we make it that way (BJ be damned). There are lots of good people that may not have all resources in the bankroll, that are willing to make fair deals. Let's just try to make deals when we can offering the other party benefit of the doubt, rather than "what the market will bear".

I'm not suggesting that everyone part with their cars/parts for a song or turn down the banker with a 6 figure cashiers check that he offers you, but try to use some discretion.

This may sound stupid, but JMHO.

I must be a "Flippee". All the cars I have, I have paid top dollar for. I looked long and hard for the ones I wanted. When I found them, I paid the price. If I make a dime on them when its time to sell I will be suprised and happy.

Suffice to say, that when someone tells you that 'this car is what I've dreamt about since I was 16...' - and when you (and others) step aside to help the person acquire it, at a good price, only to see it for sale later that week - you no longer trust or believe that person. It's as simple/complicated as that
