Values mean nothing to me. It's just a week long car show.

L88, does anybody know this car? Were there some flaws, or was it bogus, 240 and very lackluster bidding raises a question in my mind.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steve, that L88 while advertised to have its OM did not have its original stamp. The bidding was real and TM was on the car at 230K My take on the auction is that the market is becoming more selective and educated and will not open a blank checkbook for a car with issues. While I cannot speak for the e bodied mopars which seemed to down 50% vs last year I can speak for the 67 435 models and the L88 Corvettes. Prices for the 67s were down 20% vs last year but there was not one 435 car that I saw that had its original motor so while prices to the casual observer seem to be lower I believe that it is a reflection of the quality of cars that were present. I know of several recent sales of great 435s and three 69Lss that sold for huge$$$ so I believe that great cars are still selling for big money and will always bring big money. Also I think if the folks at BJ keep raising their commission rates and offer no reserve only auctions that the quality of their consignments will continue to plummett. IMHO

Steve,
People probably are more discriminating these days. I suppose there are exceptions to every rule because I remember when this thing was a pile of parts with only a few being original. Does it have even one major component today that it was born with? It is, I believe, the only L88 known to be delivered with power windows.

My heart goes out to a lot of owners who put their heart and sole into their projects and did not even get close to their restoration costs back let alone the purchase price of the car they started with. Be interesting to see if the reserve comes back.

I'm sorry but the guys doing the commentary on the 68 Impala SS427 convertible are clowns. . They are saying there were 68 Caprice SS convertibles with 4 speeds. Very rare. Ya show me one. Morons. These guys should learn a few things before talking about these cars on national TV.

Andrew,

Two years ago, I sent a rather lengthy e-mail to Craig Jackson
via. the B-J website. I strongly suggested that
they hire mfgr. specific knowledgeable commentators so each
car could be better reviewed to the TV audience. Caprice SS!

No offense to the current on-air staff, but most of these
guys ask more questions than they answer. Maybe we are
just too critical because we know some of these cars better.
I'd like to see a Chevy expert, a Ford expert, Mopar expert,
etc. if that could possibly be arranged.

Steve

There is no drought that Crag Jackson will be forced to bring back the reserve

I would not want to be crag Jackson Last night
He must of gotten ear full
Yes you could see that a lot of cars did not make what the seller had in it Just look at the 68 Hemi Charger and the Theme bike of OCC If I remember right both sold for around 185.000 I would bet they had that just in the bike
I know it did not help when Paul senor said Dhoo dhoo it had spark plugs in the head doho aha it is really fast ah-ah rock in roll should have kept his mouth shut

Norm,

If you are unfortunate enough to watch one of their shows,
that is about the extent of his vocabulary. Oh yeah,
F-this & F-that too. Forgot about those gems.

No I have watched the show His oldest son Paul jr has a real good talent
The father all he does is sleep in his office and comes out every now and them screaming and yelling F this and F that He really slows his son down with his kiddy act
I feel it was not his son being so good the father would still be welding fences
And not have the money they have I all ways thought the father was a lazy moron

Steve,

I agree with your idea. I don't expect the commentators to know everything about every car that goes over the block but when they talk about a car being very rare that was never ever even produced I mean come on. Too funny. Maybe will see a 68 caprice ss convert 4 speed at next years BJ???? LOL.

Lighten up, guys. Most cars cross the block in less time than a commercial break takes. Re-read some of the posts complaining about missing a car being sold like that.
For some strange reason, I like the tag-team announcer idea.
Considering how long those poor guys have to stand around babbling about all these different kinds of makes and models, it's hard to believe anybody could stay coherent for that many hours.
As the Walrus said, Rock and Roll.

[/ QUOTE ] It would be pointless to bring back the reserve and keep the current high commissions. They have to do both. they might even want to have a "buy it now" price for those who want to ensure they get the car before they can get outbid. My guess is if you are looking for a rare documented car or are selling one,you will go to Mecum, its going to be the new BJ. And no im not an expert, but i did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
