Colin is right on the money (no pun intended), with his investment/valuation analysis. I will say one thing though, since the valuation run-up has taken hold, I have far more fun with my clones, while my numbers car just gathers climate controlled dust.

Todays market values have recognized an 11% deduction for climate controlled dust.

My article posted above has nothing to do with Keith Martin's problems at BJ. They stem from his "Beanie Babies and Muscle Cars" article discussed here previously.
While I am a Contributing Editor for SCM, and do not agree with Keith's article or its presentation, what makes the magazine great is having a good group of real car guys being able to voice their opinions. As they say, reasonable people can reasonably disagree, and I chalk this whole debate up to one of those times. Look for my follow-up article in next month's issue, the lead photo is an LS6 we all know and love burning the tires off at SCR9. As far as my relationship with BJ, I have been a customer there for well over a decade and have known Steve Davis since he was just a lowly consignor like me and Craig since he was just Brian's little brother helping park cars. I spoke to both Steve and Craig this past week and, as of yet, I see no goons waiting to drag me away ![]() Regards, Colin Comer |

Well said. My heart loved that red '68 RS Yenko clone at Mecum in October. The same car was sold in the big tent at the rear of the grounds last weekend. Fortunately, my brain didn't follow my heart on that car and I walked away from it.

http://www.sportscarmarket.com/articles/archives/978 [/ QUOTE ] So Colin, how do you feel about a '67 RS/SS 396/325 auto? One of 1473? Just kidding! A well written article that I will forward to a few of my car buddies. As for "continuation cars," I would happily drop the coin for a CSX4000 Cobra but not expect stupid money for it someday at a Barrett-Jackson type venue. I agree with your sentiment: let it depreciate while driving the hell out of it--and ENJOY it. Just don't get starry-eyed after watching 40 hours of auction coverage! By the way, were you happy with the selling price of your gorgeous six-pack Bee? |

Colin..That is a great article, very well said. I see that your latest 289 Cobra sold, saying that it's a nice car is a gross understatement!!
