You need to just make your own combo shifter..get a Hurst Competition Plus and a donor Muncie unit....we cut the grooved end off a Hurst handle and the weld it onto the Muncie handle. Once it is inside the boot you can't tell the difference, except that it doesn't jam!!

I have an original '67 Muncie that was rebuilt/restored by Jerry MacNeish that I was going to use in my '67 Z. I'm going to drive the car, so are you all suggesting ditching it for a Hurst? Anyone out there with one of Jerry's rebuilds that are happy with it in a car that gets driven???

On our 396 car, I cut, drilled, and mounted a Muncie handle to the Hurst shifter. Works like a Hurst and Looks like a Muncie. Some of the old time guys must wonder why it shifts so well.

The 70 Nova I bought new had a factory floor mounted Muncie 3 speed shifter....only owned the car for 6 months, but I never missed a gear in it. On the other hand, every car I ever drove with a Muncie 4 speed shifter, I could never hit a gear

Thanks guys. There's a Hurst shifter in the car right now, so I guess I'll find another Muncie handle and make the mod, then sell the restored shifter that I was saving for the car.

speaking of Hurst Shifters. I just ordered a Hurst shifter
for my 68 Camaro with council.Canadian Tire sold it to me for a m22 muncie trans for 276.00 complete assembly. The shifter number is #5030030. They screwd up my first order by ordering a muncie shifter #3914339. So my question is is there a difference in shifters if you have a m22 VS m21 as far as Hurst shifters. Peter |
