I just saw the final price...
![]() I wouldn't have paid 10& of that, even if he'd have delivered it. How much will that resto cost, if a body off on a complete car in o.k. condition is $50K-$60K??? IMO, that's stupid money!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Blair

So lets keep a look out 6 mos to a year away for a "yellow/ blk L78 low mileage numbers matching 3rd owner garage kept rustfree frame off restoration mint all original" version of that sorry scrap-pile vin number.
Sad thing is, it will probably end up going through an auction somewhere, or a private sale, and no one will get to flag it. I'm sure that at that point, if confronted with this info, the new owner will have claimed to have miraculously bought all the original numbers matching parts and the original back half too so, even at that someone is still sure to get ripped. Now, I suppose there is the remote possibility that the owner will be totally honest about the cars history, but I really doubt he plans to do that based on the dollars paid for the vin tag, unless he is prepared to lose money, or wait for muscle prices to quadruple. You know, it really wouldn't be a problem as long as the seller/owner of the car once done, advertised it as a "re-body", but since I've yet to see any car advertised in this manner, I really doubt it. Its stuff like this that really increases the value of original unrestored cars in my opinion. ...Think of how many cars get bought and sold and cobbled that we do not find out about.......

His ebay history shows he has been purchasing 69 Camaro parts for some time. Wonder if his project now is going to turn into an X22 L-78?? His return may be way more than the 10K he spent if he switches the tags. Not accusing him, just thinking...

Do we have a "forum" or thread devoted to stolen vins, scrap vins, demolished vins etc? If not it might be a good idea.

So if this car was to be fixed whats the problem ??? Wrecked, rusted, stolen, its still a real big block car with a REAL TRIM TAG. If the new buyer can really track down the original motor then 10k aint so bad. Whats the value of a REAL numbers matching "motor wise" L-78 camaro 80-100k ??? You guys bitch at fakes/clones bogus trim tags ect... then complain that someone is gonna fix a real one ??? And keep an eye on that vin !!!! your right....Its gonna turn up as a real L-78 car. After all, It is isnt it !!!!!!!
ps... 10k is a little steep though. bob |
