Just got off the phone with Jeff. Only 4557 GG he has is a December carb. Interestingly wrt what Sully said, March is the latest date that Jeff has seen. I know he has seen a few Ls6s in his day. He also stated that he has seen carbs as early as December on a June built LS6. So, I guess my search is over and I will stay with my late January date. Due to lower production numbers for certain LS6 components, Jeff says he sees this sort of thing quite frequently.
Thanks for all of the input. ![]() Call Jeff if you need a December carb.

I was going to say that I think the carb should be close to the engine casting dates. Remember, their was a strike by GM and the LS6 cars were a late production for the model year. I beleive that motors were sitting for awhile befroe being put between fenders. Mr70 Rick, could you educate us a little more on this topic?????????????????????

[ QUOTE ] Kinda off topic but what is the significance of the "GG" versus no "GG" John [/ QUOTE ] John- "GG" is a reference to the last 2 characters in this carbs application part no. (whole part no. is 3967477 GG). This no. designates it for a 454/450HP/4spd & 402/375/4spd use. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks Sam. So if all 4 speed 70 L78 LS6 received the GG stamped carbs, what is a 4557 list 3967477 without the GG? Is it a over the counter replacement item or for a automatic transmission? Thanks again

John,
Did not know that there were part #'s (3967477) w/o the GG. Don't know what the application would be for that. A Chevy BB solid lifter A/T application in 1970 was . 3969894GP

Right here Rick, hoping to pick up info on this mystery myself.
![]() Question: How many plants built L78 and LS6 cars in `70? Wondering of the "GG" suffix code (et.al.) may be assembly plant related? ![]() |

While we're on the topic (and to avoid starting an unneccesarily similar thread), has anyone seen a non-"GE" 4346, or a non-"DZ" 4053? (concentrating only on production dated carbs for the moment)

For what it's worth my 70 L-78 Camaro has the non "GG" carb. with a Dec 69 date. The motor was assembled in April of 1970.
I was told it was the original carb. but who knows..... |
