I think Frank Diharte bought the Ebay Tire. I also sold to a Board Member a orig. Sports Car 200 Spare Tire that still had stenciling on the tread.

The orange/red dot on the side wall (see earlier photo) is a low run-out spot on the tire marked by the manufacture. This is to be lined up with the high run-out spot on the rim, noted by a shot welded to the outer rim lip. This was incorporated into production at Norwood,Flint, and Willow Run when the tire was mounted. This is directly from a Dealer service info Bulletin 68-I-5 dated Dec.6 1967.There goal was "...to improve vehicle ride by minimizing tire and wheel run-out variations."

This probably does not matter much for Camaro's but the Nova had a four letter code on the tread of the spare tire that matched the tire code on the chassis broadcast sheet. There are some examples in the Nova Times of both the tire code (Feb 97 I believe) and a chassis broadcast sheet (Feb 93 and May 94 I believe). There also a picture of the red dot.

KODF was the E78-14 Belted White stripe
KODB was another code.

Just checked the original spare on my 69 Nova L78. The uniroyal tiger paw red line E70-14 has the red spot near the bead. However could not find the shot weld on the side of the 3 tab XT wheel.

This was typical on 1970 & up A-Bodies (Chevelles).I think the tire plants started to use these codes for most cars around then.

Mighta started in 70 for F-bodies, but no broadcast codes on 67-9 Camaro tires.

Remember, it was plant specific according to the bulletin. It was also based on supply of each, tire & rim ,at the mentioned plants. Here is a shot of my "shot" on a 68 FC rim......I added the dot,I was unable to find it on my 68 Speedway Wide-Treds.......age I guess

Oh yeah, the 68 Z didn't have the "shot" either. It had the dot on the tire though.I have noticed more marks on the Uniroyal tires and Wide-Treds but very little on anything else. Here's another on a 69 Low Mi SS.....

I have an original E70x15 wide tread GT out of a 68Z28 that has the same E 75F01 stamped on the tread, it has the right code on the rim for a 68Z.
