Cool shots Frank. Got a candy red 55 in my garage too. 502, blown(underhood B&M). Has gone 11.0's @130 on street tires, through the muffs. That car still gets most the looks when it's out!

55Chevy, HvyChevy, you guys have been asking now for about three months to see a photo of my shoebox, the car is covered and stored in the back of one of my buildings with about six cars in front of it, so the best I could do is snap a photo of a photo from a few years ago. I have owned this car since the seventies, the only changes I made was to take off the chrome reverse wheels with baby moons, other then that it is exactly how it was built around 1969. Fenderwell headers, tube grille, diamondplete interior, top of dash mounted Sun tach, Craig in dash 8 track with a plug in converter to play cassettes, dice from the mirror, blue dot tail lights, glasspack mufflers. musical horns, carpeted trunk, half headlight chrome covers, long throw Hurst shifter with polished T-Handle, 327 with 283 crank(302), tri power, finned corvette valve covers, Lakewood ladder bars, Gabriel air shocks, chrome driveshaft, finned aluminum rear end cover, and it has speakers installed in the rear shelf, called Mindblowers that each have their own amp built in. This car belonged to a famous country music singer and I left it as he had it built. When I do decide to go through the car I will keep it as is. Has one more thing that was a mandatory option, a tube of Brylcreem in the glovebox! Click on link.
Thanks, Motown http://www.boomspeed.com/ezmatt/DSC01611.JPG

Guys I just love a nice nostalgic 55! A lot of you guys probably started out with a tri five like that. My father told me that when he started driving in the mid 60's a lot of the muscle cars that we love today were not as hot as hot back then. They were just every day cars. He said the real hot rods were the tri fives. They were cheap to pick up and you could do a ton of things to them. He told me that the 55 shown in the pictures cost him $200.00 for the initial car but cost another $2500.00 to build over a couple of years. Man, he could have bought a new car for that price!
The Sun Tach with the garter is cool. I do the same thing to my car now! If you look at the pic with the view of the interior in B&W from the driver side you can see a little Playboy bunny sticker on the vent window. Man those must have been the days. I bet my dad can still hear the Mowtown playing on the radio when he used to cruise the streets of Chicago when he looks at these pictures! BTW Whitetop what kind of wheels are on the 55 in the first pic? I have a Keystone Wheels Catalog from 1967 and they look just like Keystone Kustomflite wheels. He told me that after these pics were taken he bought a brand new set of Keystone Astro mags. What did Astro's look like?

Frank
I've seen ads for Astro wheels. What do they look like? In the early '60's a company was making chrome 5 spokes called Astro Supremes, somewhat similar to a Cragar. I think it was Keystone who made the Astro wheels your refering to. They were an inexpensive chrome slot wheel just like on the '55 your dad's friend had. The local Nationwise Auto Parts had them for something like $12.99 each up into the mid '70's. They were real popular from say '67-'68 up to '70 or so. Dave |
