Dan did a significant amount of research on the Hauser ZL-1 Camaros. I applaud him for that. I tried to assist him in the search, but had run into a dead end on which silver automatic ZL-1 Hauser had. All cars had been ruled out but the #4 car, but I had no proof that this was indeed the Hauser ZL-1. I mention this because Dan is not the person referred to by William. I am.
Several month's into Dan's research, a person contacted me after seeing my web site, and stated he was the original owner of the #4 ZL-1. It had been purchased from Hauser. He wanted to contact the current owner.
I do not give out contact information for owners, and usually ask owners to reply directly. I was never given any contact information other than the name of the #4 current owner. But I knew that William had worked on the owner's ZL-1 and had his contact information.
I asked William to forward my number to the current owner, explaining I had found the original owner of the #4 car, but after waiting did not receive a reply. A month later, I called William again, and found that William had the wrong area code for my number. He said he would forward the corrected number to the current owner. At that point, I went on to other things, and felt if the current owner was not interested in contacting me, I would not pursue the issue. As can be seen in the above statements from William, the current owner apparently was not interested.
At no time did I hold out for money. That was a false statement on William's part, which he acknowledged.
I feel I have an obligation to protect the identities of everyone who has entrusted me with their information. I followed the same protocol with any inquiry.
I mentioned it to William and I will mention it here, the time I spend on the phone, in emails, and other research for these cars is a labor of love and the hobby. It is not for money. If I were in it for money, you would see me in a totally different capacity.
I feel that honesty is the only way for me to handle my affairs and my life. I thought people felt this way about me also.
After reading William's statement, I'm not so sure.
Just to set the record straight.

Ed, I think I speak for 99.9% of anyone involved in this hobby when I say you are "the grandaddy" of documenting. I have never heard a negative comment regarding you, your family, your ethics, or your documentation fee. You were involved with a passion when most of us did not even know what a yenko, motion, or nickey even was. You divulge the information you have gathered willingly. At the same time you have never claimed to know it all. In fact, I can tell you are excited when something new is learned. I am sure you have thousands of hours of research in this hobby. You have been nothing but a gentleman with class when I have needed your assistance. I would have to say without a doubt you are the "go to guy" when questions or documenting a vehicle is needed. A standard question I ask, or anyone should ask when purchasing a supercar is: did Ed document the car? You should be a proud man for what you have accomplished. I am sure if there was a pioneer award in this hobby, it would be on your shelf. Ed, you need to disregard these negative statements about you, it only reflects someones ignorance.

Dave,
I have to agree with you 100% on this issue. I can tell you from first hand experience that Ed has an unparalleled passion for our Super Car Hobby. No one has been at it longer or run harder with it than Ed Cuneen.

The hobby has been greatly enhanced by your participation and I for one hope that you choose to continue to participate for a long, long time to come.

You have certainly given back more to the hobby than you can ever expect to take from it.

You and your Family are truly first class.

Signed : "A money Grubbing Middleman"

THANK YOU WILLIAM ! Gentlemen, I think you are all missing the point. If you truly want to to continue to update info., reunite owners, create history etc. You have to try and make this as quick and painless as possible for both parties. Protecting identities is important but you must leave lines of communication open and active. No one likes to be pestered or ignored. This is how history is lost. IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE EVERYONE CAME VERY CLOSE TO LOOSING! I hope we can all learn from our mistakes. Let us go on and enjoy what we learn! Original OWNER # 4 ZL1 Joe G.

I Believe that is Williams Silver ZL-1 pictured in the background on the Used Car lot,as he just recently posted a Picture of it in one of these forums.
I read this also on another Website, and Saw that auction too.I have the entire April 1971 Salesmans Communication Kit that Filmstrip came in,and always thought that was someones car in the Background.
I was Glad to see it was someone from here.

Yup, same car being discussed here. Total fluke that I found it. I had happened across it on ebay, noticed the dealer, and sent it onto Bill.
