This is very strange indeed. There is no apparent logic to the levels assigned.

Take for example the user 169indy who has only posted 3 times, and they are very insignificant posts at that. His title is "member". 302Z has posted 0 times and is a "junior member".

I've posted around 24 times with what I feel to be some amount of significant information and I've been assigned "stranger".

I see some people that don't even have a "supercar" and that haven't posted often & don't post any significant information, yet have titles such as "elite member", etc...

Seems peculiar.

Correct me if i'm wrong Rob. If your computer deletes its cookies on a regular basis. Then you will keep starting over on your ranking. I am the oldest posting member of this board and I am at the lowest level. I helped Rob test when he was setting up the board. But my computer cleans cookies about once a week.

Actually, Mo, you may be the oldest IN AGE (happy b-day !), you there are a few other members who registered earlier. Remember, I transferred members from the old board...yeah, I know, I got you on a technicality! You were the first to post on the new board, though!

As for your cookies, yeah, they are stored on your computer, and you can delete them manually at your convenience. But, each time you make a post, it is written to a seperate file on the site's server, which contains your post count, last time visited, your profile info, etc., and it's from that file that your cookie is generated. So, unless I wipe out our database (which has been done!), then your post count remains untouched.

As for the membership titles, I'm not sure why they don't work correctly all the time. If I had to guess I would say it's becuase I upgraded from a freeware version bulletin board program that had a few hacks in it and some of the code isn't jive-ing with the new software. Or...

What real difference does it make if you post 1 time or 1000 times, the site seems to me is for helping and assisting people on vehicle questions. If I can help in anyway I do so ,I really don't care if I am a stranger or a junior or elite member its all in helping and getting help on vehicle questions etc. to me. Everyone can't be president! I guess it is just a status to some,I think this way, help if you can and get help if you need it,thats what the whole thing is about isn't it.Please correct me if I am wrong. If someone has to be upgraded from a stranger to a junior please give them my rating,I will be happy being a stranger!! Totally agree.

I've seen a number of post here & other boards where people have gotten mad about things that "Forum Leader" or "Tech Team" have said, thinking that it was some sort of official response.

It also promotes content-free posting to jump to the next level.
