Is RPM only a rust inhibitor or did the RPM give the "GRAY" coloration to
the springs ?????

Is RPM expected to hold off RUST for a long period of time or would
you occassionally use FLUID FILM or BOESHIELD. LPS etc

Chuck, for the coloration of the bare metal i use a small amount of slip plate and rub it into the surface and wipe it down good - gives a nice even look to the metal coloration

then i use the rpm as a paste and rub that in.....a good friend of mine looks to heat the parts up and allow the paste to work its way int the pros of the metal for a better protection...that does work nicely.
