No they aren't the correct color out of the box, they come molded gray and must be painted silver.

From what i have seen is that the original GM fillers were molded in the color white and then painted. The repop ones of today come in the color gray.

I've had very good luck with Krylon #1403, has the right shade and finish....

I have a NOS one in the box and it is molded gray in color. May depend on the supplier. |

3919083 is cast into the bottom side of one (still new in box) I bought 10 or more years ago, along with a little clock and the number 72. Don't know exactly what the significance of all this is, but mine is gray in color also.

Yep, just spray it dry. And, I've seen guys leave out the screws that attach the plastic panel to the bottom of the grill, keeps it from cracking.
