Sure looks like a "D". I don't recall any engine stamp in that location from the factory.

Regardless of the mystery stampings, are there regular stampings on the passenger side deck surface that extends in front of the head?
What's the block casting # also may as well check the distributor # while you're at it? [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif[/img] ~ Pete

Later engines had the stamp in that location rather than on the pad in front of the head.
