Default Re: LS6 Dates - Wide Spread - Sound Right?

I have a Baltimore LS6 in the shop right now with the VIN by the oil filter. The car has been in the family since new and has paperwork and has not been on the road in a VERY long time. I admit this is the only Baltimore one I have seen like this but nothing look suspicious.

Fellas -

Here are the pics of the pad. I'm no expert, so please let me know what you can tell from this.

Thanks,

Scott

Here's the VIN stamp by the oil filter.

Thanks,

hi scott,
so far so good IMO they look real to me with the correct font size and style and it looks as though the block was not machined,also has the bigger Oil Cooler Hole by the oil filter which came on 4 bolt main blocks.
Breaks down for T0403CRR = Tonawanda plant,1970,April 3,CRR is an LS6 with turbo 400 automatic.
10B1771xx = 1=Chevrolet 0=1970 B=Baltimore 1771xx=Vin (should match the dash plate VIN)

VIN stamp appears to be consistent with what was sent to me by another member; another Baltimore LS6 oil filter VIN stamp.

Thanks!

Scott

The more hi-performance the engine, especially big blocks, the larger the acceptable spread. This is due to the low volume and the fact that inventory was not on a first in, first out basis. The difference in the head dates could explain the whole date spread. If there was a problem with one head, the engine could have been serviced and may have sat for months before being addressed. I had a ’68 435 engine that had a casting date of November ’67 and a build date of July ’68, a full eight month spread.
