 Add my name to the above list of "Post Car Junkies". I've had mine for nine years now. Wasn't the 3-speed in the Chevelle a Saginaw unit?

They may have used the Saginaw on the small blocks and 6 bangers, but the MC1 Muncie HD 3-speed was the standard behind a 396.
