true that, assuming 25% of what he said about the body, mechanical is true, it is just the huckster surrounding it that is a turn off and makes one want to run the opposite direction

Ha Ha.I think I got this one figured out.The secret is supposed to be hidden under that wrong air cleaner{but isnt thanks to equally wrong intake and carb}.This car has an H in the 5th digit. As he said,K code L48 cars, but what he didnt mention is that his is an H code L-65 2 barrel car.A lot of things are real nice and correct about that resto, and many could easily be changed, but you would think that if the car's claim to fame were it's lowly 2 barrel,he would have at least put it on the car.

Well, I missed the "H", that means it is not a SS Camaro because the engine is part of the package. You either got a LS3 "U" or a L48 "K", therefore it is a base model Camaro. Look at the right rivet on the body tag, it is kinda smashed flat. Tag changed?

He did say it was a copo which may explain why it was equipped with the L-65 engine.Somebody needs to document this if it is the case, not that such a car should be so overly desireable.Since nobody even knew they existed,it isnt like they have some kind of special history or anything.

This might be another case where a potential buyer might want to watch a lot of other adds on Ebay like I do,and compare the build dates of other cars to the VIN sequences of those cars to see if this car's build date matches approximate run area of the assigned VIN.Another thing to look at is under the A pillar moldings, there is a date stamped there on these cars that should be reasonable close to the build date on the tag.Since this seller stripped the heck out of this car it may never be known if this is the original color, but while the A pillar molding is off,the potential buyer could pull off the molding that holds the headliner over the door and sneak a peek at the inner roof panel which might still have evidence of the original color overspray.

I sure would like to know the real story behind this COPO L-65 deal though.

LOL, well if it is in fact a COPO because it has a special order L65 I just have one question...WHY...Why would anyone go to the trouble of special ordering a L65 for the car?

Weird thing. Both my 73 firebird and Camaro have it,but my 74 doesnt.I wonder if it changes from year to year.My 73 Firebird also has a number stamped into the inner wheelhouse but I never checked to see if it means anything.

There was some discussion about this also on NastyZ.... Here are a couple of the sellers replies to some questions that were asked. The 1st one was to another member and the last one was to me.... I get a kick out the one where he meet some guy that told him about the 8 cars and he's seen 5 of them!!! WOW that's one lucky guy!!

"Here was his follow up to questioning of how he came up with one of eight.

i do not get upset,i like cars and questions, the 1 out of 8 is there on the pruduction numbers have you broken them down? lets do it,total rpo Z-27 packages or ss for 72 6,562, total rpo L48 Engine 350-200hp(included with SS) 5,584 rpo LS3 Engine 396-240hp (SS) 970 deduct 5584 plus 970 from 6562 you have 8 left all this 8 will be ss with the Z-27 on the cowl tag, specifying the ss package but with the extra or the deductions that were order by central order production office (COPO), i did not go with that spoiler that is the one that came with the car also the rims, again this could be the added or changes they made to this 8 cars i have not found or there is no other information on any books telling me what they had or not or if all 8 where the same just that they were 8 built different, also correct 3 piece would be for a normal SS but this 8 where special order that could be one of the changes, the factory holes are not there for the 3 piece spoiler but yes it had the ones for the 1 piece, believe me i did not know all of this and even that this 8 cars existed till i bump into a old fellow that had a motor home for sale in the west coast FL that i went to see that has back in texas one of this 8 he's the one who showed me all,i drove to naples to see the motor home and took the camaro since it drives good,he look at it and when i open the hood the cowl tag was painted,he stared at it for a long time and ask me if he could removed some of the paint istanlly he call his wife screaming honey look i found another one of the 8 he had so far seen 5,2 back home texas,1 in california 1 in NY.now the one he has and the one in NY are black from factory another copo auction black was not offer in 72 so he explain the whole deal to me and told me where to find the info, also his and the one in NY have the 1 piece spoiler,i never did look at the cowl tag when i purchase the car i purchased it because it was in excellent cond and figured i could make a buck or two, thanks"

Here's his reply after I asked him why his VIN had a 'H' in it and not a 'K'

"your not telling me anything new this information in known by the common joe blow or jack ass but now here is what you need to know , and what is a fact down in the camaro white book

RPO total price

Z27 Super Sport 6,562 $306.35

__________________________________________________ _________________-

L48 Engine 350-200hp (included with ss ) 5,584

LS3 Engine 396-240hp (ss) 970

______

total 6554

now if you subtract the total of the big blocks and the total of the l-48 from the total Z-27 packages sold in 1972 you have 8 cars that had the ss package but did not have either of the two engines,

6562

- 6554

___________

8"

After this awesome reply I told him I have over 20 years experience of researching 2nd gen Camaro's but if you think you have a real COPO you should get in contact with a knowledgable 2nd gen COPO Camaro expert, such as Phil Borris.... I never heard back from him after that!
