Here is my set of Drag Mags that I just got back from the polisher. A good polisher can restore almost anything.

I have a set of vintage Ansen Sprint slot aluminum wheels that I am taking to the polisher this week. They are in very nice condition with only a few shallow scratches here and there. The coarse finish on the back of the wheel is very rough and dirty. How should this area be finished? What instructions, specifically, should I give to the polisher to get the best end product overall. And finally, what is the best way to preserve the polished wheel?
Thanks, ![]()

I dropped wheels off at polisher. Shop owner's recommendation was to media blast the backs of the wheels to clean them up. If this sounds reasonable would anyone recommend a clear coat or other protective seal over the coarse surface to aid in cleanup from road and brake soot?

I've heard of people clear powder coating the wheels after they are polished...I don't know how it hold up though?

Thanks Bruce. Only want to address the backs of the wheels as they would be a bear to clean up with all of the nooks/crannies/pores etc.

On the subject of wheeling polishing......can anybody recommend a vendor to remove dings & polish 70 Z-28 15x7 Trim Rings, 14x7 Rally Trim Rings, and the Stainless Dish portion of my 1970 PO-2 caps........
Major problem on dings is galvanized backing ring prevents you from hammering out defect. I would like someone to try polishing ring while mounted on turning wheel......... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
